Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team defeated Rutgers-Camden, 1-0 on Tuesday in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament.
The Profs (34-4) play the fourth seed The College of New Jersey (19-11) on May 1 at 1 p.m. in the second round. The remainder of the double elimination tournament will be held at Rowan on May 1-3.
The Scarlet Raptors (21-12-1), seeded sixth, meet the fifth seed Kean University (23-10-1) on Friday at 11 a.m. In the third game, the second seed Ramapo College (25-11-1) faces the third seed William Paterson University (27-9-1) at 3 p.m. In the other first round games, Ramapo had an 8-2 victory over Kean and William Paterson shut out The College of New Jersey, 5-0.
Right-hander
Beth Ann Hyland (jr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) recorded her sixth shutout on the season. She (16-2) only gave up one hit and struck out eight batters. Righty Brittany Scott (jr. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) had the loss. She (16-11) allowed one run on three hits and had four strikeouts.
Rowan right fielder
Sammy Vradenburg (so. Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge) had two hits in three at bats. Shortstop
Shilah Snead (jr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) registered one RBI.
The Profs' winning run came in the second inning. Designated player
Sara Finnegan (so. South Brunswick, NJ/South Brunswick) was hit by a pitch then replaced by pinch runner
Rosalie Hood (fr. Egg Harbor City, NJ/Cedar Creek). Hood advanced to second on a base hit by Vradenburg. Vradenburg and Hood went to second and third on a wild pitch. Hood crossed the plate on Snead's groundout.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students, senior citizens and children. The conference champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
