Box Score 2 GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team shut out Rutgers-Newark, 6-0 and 6-0 in the final regular season doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
The Profs have a 33-4 overall record with a 14-4 final conference mark. They are the number one seed in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament and will host the sixth seed Rutgers-Camden in the first round on Tuesday, April 28 at 4 p.m. The Scarlet Raiders are 16-20 overall and 5-13 in the NJAC.
Right-hander
Beth Ann Hyland (jr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) recorded her first no-hitter in the opener. She (15-2) totaled seven strikeouts. Righty Kathy Yusko (fr. Portage, PA/Penn Cambria) had the loss. She (10-8) gave up five earned runs.
Second baseman
Alysa Romero (sr. Newfield, NJ/Vineland) went three-for-four with two RBIs, one double and a home run. Shortstop
Shilah Snead (jr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) contributed with two hits, a triple, one RBI and one run. Third baseman
Jessica Phillips (sr. Woolwich, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) crossed the plate twice and first baseman

In the first inning, Romero knocked in Snead with a single to left center. Snead led off with a triple to right center. Snead's RBI single in the second made the score 2-0. Rowan added two more runs in the third and fourth innings. Romero started the third with a solo homer to right center and Finnegan drove in Phillips. In the fourth, Machinski walked with the bases loaded, scoring Phillips. Vradenburg singled home Mercado.
Right-hander
Allison Nolan (jr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) was the winning pitcher in relief in the second contest. She (11-1) threw two hitless innings after Hyland went three to start the game. Morgan Walizer (fr. Forked River, NJ/Lacey Twp.) was the losing pitcher. She allowed six runs, one earned on nine hits.
Left fielder
Mia Baldassari (fr. Hopatcong, NJ/Morris Knolls) produced three hits in four at bats, a double and one RBI. Snead added one RBI and scored a run. Mercado chipped in with two runs while pinch hitter
Amanda Toomer (sr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) tallied two RBIs. Catcher
Alyssa Sims (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) had two hits (two at bats), one RBI and one run.
The Profs scored five runs in the second inning and one in the third. Toomer drove in the first two with a single up the middle. Sims had a RBI single followed by Snead with a RBI double. Baldassari's double brought home Snead. In the third, Mercado had a leadoff double and she went to third on a groundout. She came home on a sac fly by Machinski.
Rowan is the host for the remainder of the NJAC Championship Tournament on May 1-3. The conference tournament is double elimination and the winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
