Box Score 2 CAMDEN, NJ – The Rowan University softball team defeated Rutgers-Camden, 18-1 in five innings and 10-4 on Tuesday.
The Profs are 28-2 overall and 10-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Scarlet Raptors have a 16-8-1 record with a 7-5 conference mark.
In the opener,
Beth Ann Hyland (jr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) was the winning pitcher. She (12-1) threw three innings and gave up one earned run on four hits. Hyland struck out four batters. Rookie
Rachel Gagliardo (fr. Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.) was on the mound for the final two innings and only allowed one hit. Brittany Scott (jr. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) was the losing pitcher (13-6).
First baseman
Damariz Mercado (so. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) led the way with two hits, a home run, four RBIs and three runs. Designated player
Morgan Smith (fr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) contributed with three RBIs and a double. She also scored twice. Right fielder
Sierra Machinski (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) totaled two hits (three at bats), three RBIs, one double and a homer. Shortstop
Shilah Snead (jr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) recorded her fifth home run of the season and crossed the plate three times.
Third baseman
Jessica Phillips (sr. Woolwich, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) produced two hits in three at bats, two RBIs and two runs. Left fielder

Alyssa Sims (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) each scored two runs. Second baseman

Shannon Costello (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) posted two RBIs and a double.
Snead's home run was a solo shot in the first inning. Mercado smashed a three-run homer in the fourth while Machinski followed with her first collegiate home run in the fifth.
Right-hander
Allison Nolan (jr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) had the victory in the second contest. In seven innings, she (9-0) scattered six hits and allowed one unearned run. Scott suffered the loss (13-7).
Machinski and Costello registered three RBIs apiece. Costello was three-for-four at the plate with a double. Machinski also scored one run. Mercado had a double and one RBI. Smith posted three hits, one double, a RBI and two runs. Baldassari scored three runs and had two hits. Snead collected two hits, a double and three runs.
For Rutgers-Camden, right fielder Jalene Garcia (so. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) had three hits in four at bats, one RBI and one run scored. Second baseman Taylor Nichols (fr. Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights) and Scott each had one RBI.
