Box Score 2 UNION, NJ – The Kean University softball team won 2-1 and 3-2 in eight innings over Rowan University on Saturday.
The Cougars improve to 16-5 overall and 6-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Profs are 25-2 overall and 7-2 in the conference.
Kean designated player Alexis D'Aloisio (sr. Tolland, CT/Tolland) hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to win the opener. Third baseman Emily Bissonnette (so. Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a sac bunt by third baseman MacKenzie Valeriani (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison). D'Aloisio's blast went over the left field fence.
Right-hander Courtney Yard (sr. Stockton, NJ/Hunterdon Central) was the winning pitcher. She (10-2) gave up two hits and one run while striking out nine batters. Righty
Beth Ann Hyland (jr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) took the loss (11-1).
Rowan's run came in the third inning. Shortstop
Shilah Snead (jr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) recorded a solo shot to center field. It was her fourth home run on the season.
In the second contest, Stephanie Gilbert (sr. Howell, NJ/Howell) was the winning pitcher in relief. She (6-2) went four innings and allowed three hits. Right-hander
Ashley Lesch (fr. Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) had the loss (5-1) on the mound.
For Kean, left fielder Brooke Ennis (fr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) had three hits in three at bats and D'Aloisio drove in two runs. Center fielder
Shannon Costello (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and catcher
Alyssa Sims (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) each produced two hits and one RBI for Rowan. First baseman
Damariz Mercado (so. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) contributed with two hits, a double and one run.
The Cougars had a 2-0 lead after the third inning. D'Aloisio knocked in the two runs with a base hit up the middle. The Profs tied the game in the fourth. Costello and Sims both had RBI singles. Kean's winning run came on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth.
Rowan has a rescheduled home game against Stockton University on Sunday, April 12 at noon.
