Softball Defeats Gettysburg, 12-1 And Penn State Berks, 5-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LITTLE RIVER, SC – The Rowan University softball team defeated Gettysburg College, 12-1 in six innings and Penn State Berks, 5-0 on Sunday.  The Profs return from the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with a 6-0 record.
 
Against Gettysburg, right-hander Allison Nolan (jr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) pitched four innings for the win.  She (2-0) only allowed two hits and had two strikeouts.  Newcomer Ashley Lesch (fr. Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) was on the mound for the last two innings.  She gave up two hits and one earned run.  Pitcher Lindsey Treanor (sr. Holtsville, NY/Sachem E.) took the loss.  In 3.2 innings, she (0-1) surrendered four hits and five runs, four earned.
 
Left fielder Mia Baldassari (fr. Hopatcong, NJ/Morris Knolls) and first baseman Damariz Mercado (so. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) each contributed with two hits in three at bats and two runs scored.  Mercado also had one RBI.  Second baseman Alysa Romero (sr. Newfield, NJ/Vineland) and catcher Morgan Smith (fr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) collected one hit, two RBIs and two runs.  Romero's hit was a double. 
 
Center fielder Shannon Costello (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and third baseman Jessica Phillips (sr. Woolwich, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) recorded three RBIs apiece.  Costello produced a double and scored one run.  Right fielder Alyssa Sims (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.), pinch runner Rosalie Hood (fr. Egg Harbor City, NJ/Cedar Creek) and right fielder Sammy Vradenburg (so. Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge) each crossed the plate one time.
 
Right-hander Beth Ann Hyland (jr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) threw six innings for the victory over Penn State Berks.  She (3-0) scattered four hits and struck out 10 batters.  The 10 strikeouts tied her career high.  Rookie Rachel Gagliardo (fr. Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.) threw the final inning and did not allow a hit.  Righty Casey Hafer (sr. Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) was on the mound for a complete game and had the loss.   
 
Shortstop Shilah Snead (jr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) went four for five with two runs scored.  Smith and Phillips each registered two hits.  Phillips also had one RBI while Smith scored one run.  Designated player Ashley DeYoung (jr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) added two hits in two at bats, a double and one RBI.  Baldassari chipped in with a double, one RBI and one run.  Sims had one hit and one run scored.
