Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, FL – The Rowan University softball team won two games on the final day of its Florida trip. The Profs defeated Eastern Connecticut State University, 9-1 in five innings and Skidmore College, 8-0 in six innings on Friday.
Rowan is undefeated with an 18-0 record. The Profs had a 12-0 mark at the Rebel Spring Games. Right-hander
Allison Nolan (jr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) threw three innings and only gave up two hits for the victory against Eastern Connecticut State (6-3). Nolan (6-0) had three strikeouts. Righty
Ashley Lesch (fr. Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) was the mound for the last two innings. Samantha Valentine (so. Ridge, NY/Longwood) (2-2) was the losing pitcher.
First baseman
Damariz Mercado (so. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) paced the Profs with two hits (three at bats), two RBIs and two runs. Shortstop
Shilah Snead (jr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) was two for four with one RBI and two runs. Left fielder
Mia Baldassari (fr. Hopatcong, NJ/Morris Knolls) produced three hits, a double and one RBI. Right fielder
Sammy Vradenburg (so. Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge) contributed with two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Catcher
Alyssa Sims (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.), second baseman
Alysa Romero (sr. Newfield, NJ/Vineland) and designated player
Morgan Smith (fr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) all had one hit and one run. Third baseman
Jessica Phillips (sr. Woolwich, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) scored one run and Sims drove in one.
Right-hander
Beth Ann Hyland (jr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) recorded the shutout versus Skidmore (4-6). In six innings, she (6-0) allowed two hits and had three strikeouts. Pitcher Cassie Fishkin (jr. New City, NY/Clarkstown S.) had the loss. She (3-4) went 4.1 innings and gave up nine hits and five earned runs.
Smith registered two doubles, four RBIs and one run. Snead went three for four with one double, one RBI and two runs. Romero produced three hits, a double, one RBI and scored two runs. Center fielder
Shannon Costello (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) added two hits and two RBIs.
The Profs had a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Snead led off with a double down the left field line and went to third on a ground out. She came home on Romero's double to left field. Costello knocked in Romero with a base hit. Rowan scored three runs in the fifth and was ahead 5-0. Smith drove in Baldassari and Romero with a double to left center. Costello had a base hit, scoring Smith. The Profs ended the game early with three runs in the sixth. Snead had a RBI single and Smith tallied a two RBI double.
Next week, the softball team travels to Haverford College on Thursday, March 26 for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
