Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, FL – The Rowan University softball team defeated St. Norbert College, 6-4 and Centenary College, 6-0 on Wednesday. The Profs have won 10 straight at the Rebel Spring Games and they are undefeated with a 16-0 record.
Shortstop
Shilah Snead (jr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) recorded a three run homer in the win against St. Norbert. The game was tied at three going into the top of the sixth. First baseman
Damariz Mercado (so. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) led off with a double to left center. With one out, catcher
Alyssa Sims (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) produced a double and Mercado advanced to third. Snead hit a shot to center field for her third home run on the season. St. Norbert had a homer by designated player Brooke Wilson (fr. Wheaton, IL/Wheaton-Warrenville S.) in the bottom of the seventh.
Snead ended the game with two hits (four at bats) and two runs scored. Center fielder
Shannon Costello (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) contributed with two hits, one double and one RBI. Mercado had two hits and scored two runs. Sims was two for two at the plate with one run. Designated player
Morgan Smith (fr. Millsboro, NJ/Sussex Central) registered two hits in three at bats and one run.
Right-hander
Rachel Gagliardo (fr. Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.) pitched 2.1 relief innings for the win. She (2-0) gave up two hits and one earned run. Righty Morgan Rusch (sr. Appleton, WI/West) had the loss on the mound.
Wilson led the Green Knights with two hits (four at bats) and three RBIs. Second baseman Samantha Gross (sr. West Bend, WI/East) and center fielder Tayler Long (jr. Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) each registered one hit and one run. Long also had one RBI.
Rowan led 3-0 after two runs in the second inning and one in the third. Mercado scored on a dropped fly ball in the second and Snead came home on a throwing error. In the third, Costello drove in Smith with a single. St. Norbert tied the score in the bottom of the fifth. Long had a RBI single and Wilson knocked in two runs with a base hit.
Right-hander
Allison Nolan (jr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) threw four innings for the victory over Centenary. She (5-0) only allowed one hit and had seven strikeouts.
Beth Ann Hyland (jr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) was the pitcher for the final three innings and earned the save.
Snead totaled two hits (three at bats), one double, one RBI and one run. Second baseman
Alysa Romero (sr. Newfield, NJ/Vineland) had a double, two RBIs and one run. Third baseman
Jessica Phillips (sr. Woolwich, NJ/Kingsway Reg.), Smith and Costello each added one hit and one RBI. Smith and Mercado scored one run apiece.
In the first inning, Romero and Costello each had a RBI double. Snead singled home right fielder
Sammy Vradenburg (so. Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge) in the second. Costello's base hit in the third, scored Smith. Mercado crossed the plate on a single by Phillips. Rowan's final run came in the fourth inning. Romero had a sacrifice fly to left field and Snead scored.
Rowan has two more games in Florida on Friday, March 20 against Eastern Connecticut State University and Skidmore College at 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. respectively.
