GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team earned a 74-62 victory over Rutgers-Newark in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon.
The Profs improve to 17-7 overall and they are 12-5 in the conference. The Scarlet Raiders have a 12-12 record with an 8-9 NJAC mark. Guard

Kate Matthews (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) each had nine points. Matthews grabbed seven rebounds and guard
Bria Hill (sr. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) corralled six boards.
Rutgers-Newark forward Jade Howard (sr. Sicklerville, NJ/St. Joseph (Hammonton)) recorded a game-high 25 points and 12 rebounds. Center Sharee Gordon (sr. Newark, NJ/University) added 12 points while guard Maria Simmons (so. Irvington, NJ/Irvington) and center Jasmine Lombard (so. Hillside, NJ/Hillside) chipped in with eight apiece. Guard Arianna Williams (jr. Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) totaled seven rebounds and Gordon followed with six.
There were seven ties and 10 lead changes in the first half. Matthews' jumper knotted the score at 11 (12:27). Howard made a basket to give the Scarlet Raiders a 17-13 lead (8:12). Sanchez's three (8:01) and free throw (7:23) evened the score at 17. Gordon's layup gave Rutgers-Newark a four-point advantage (25-21) with 5:08 to go. A three-pointer by Sanchez (3:15) tied the game again at 29. The Scarlet Raiders tallied four of the final six points to lead 33-31 at the break. Howard collected 16 points and six rebounds in the period while Gordon had 10 points.
Guard Shala Glenn (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) opened the second stanza with a layup to make the score 35-31 (19:45). Rowan responded with a 16-2 run to go ahead by 10 (47-37) with 12:45 on the clock. Four different players scored during the surge, led by Schullstrom with 10. Rutgers-Newark recorded 11 of the next 16 points to cut the deficit to four (52-48) with 8:46 left. The Profs followed with an 8-2 surge to restore a 10-point cushion (60-50) with 5:44 remaining. Hill produced four points while Bonder and Sanchez scored two apiece. Schullstrom's triple (3:00) increased the lead to 13 (65-52). Guard
