Women's Soccer Headed To Messiah For NCAA Third Round

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's soccer team is headed to Messiah College on Saturday, Nov. 21 for the third round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.  The Profs (15-2-2) play the Falcons (20-0-2) at 11 a.m.
 
In the other third round game, Hardin-Simmons University (19-2-1) and Swarthmore College (18-2-1) meet at 1:30 p.m.  The two winners advance to the sectional final on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m.
 
Rowan advanced to the third round with shutouts over Lasell College, 2-0 and Lynchburg College, 1-0.  The Profs received an automatic bid to the national tournament as the champion of the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  It is Rowan's 11th appearance in the postseason and second time in the third round. 

Messiah won the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth title and was an automatic qualifier.  The Falcons defeated the College of Staten Island, 6-0 in the first round and Montclair State University, 3-0 in the second.  This is Messiah's 16th consecutive trip to the NCAA postseason.  The Falcons have won five national championships (2012, 2011, 2009, 2008, 2005) and they finished second three times (2010, 2007, 2002) and third twice (2006, 2004).
 
In the NCAA first round, Hardin-Simmons won 3-1 over the University of California at Santa Cruz.  The Cowgirls shut out Trinity University (TX), 2-0 in the second round.  Hardin-Simmons is in the national tournament for the 15th time and 13th straight season.  The Cowgirls won the 2010 NCAA Championship.  Swarthmore advanced with first and second round victories over St. Joseph's College-Long Island, 5-2 and Catholic University, 1-0 respectively.  The Garnet made its first trip to the NCAAs in 2014.  Hardin-Simmons earned an automatic berth as the champion of the American Southwest Conference while Swarthmore received an at-large berth. 
 
The national semifinals and final are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, December 4 and December 5 at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, MO.
