GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team won 65-51 versus New Jersey City University in a conference game on Saturday afternoon.
The Profs improve to 14-5 overall and they are 10-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Gothic Knights drop to 7-12 with a 1-11 NJAC mark. Guard
Kaitlin Schullstrom (jr. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) led the way with 19 points, which tied her career high, and eight rebounds. Forward
Summer Crilley (fr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) totaled 12 points and guard
Anyssa Sanchez (so. Stratford, NJ/Sterling) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Guard
Bria Hill (sr. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) chipped in with seven points and center
Kate Matthews (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) grabbed a season high 16 boards.
Forward Bria Smith (so. Bayonne, NJ/St. Dominic Academy) paced New Jersey City with 17 points and guard Irelynn Donovan (fr. Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) followed with 12. Guards Jazz Randall (so. Parsippany, NJ/West Orange) and Jade Medley (sr. Queens, NY/Hudson Catholic) corralled six rebounds apiece.
Rowan scored the first 11 points of the contest in 4:03. Schullstrom scored three points while guard
Jade Bonder (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Matthews, Hill and Sanchez each made a basket. A three-pointer by Hill made the score 16-5 (14:36). Forward Deseree Johnson (jr. Red Bank, NJ/Monmouth Reg.) had a jumper to close the deficit to six (21-15) with 8:26 left. The Profs ended the half with a 16-4 run over the final 8:12 to take a 37-19 advantage into the break. Six different players recorded points in the surge. Matthews registered six points and 12 rebounds in the period.
In the second half, Schullstrom's layup increased Rowan's lead to 45-21 (15:28). A layup by Hill gave the Profs their largest margin at 25 (53-28) with 10:38 on the clock. New Jersey City had a 14-4 spurt over 5:56 to trail 57-42 (4:31). Smith tallied 10 of the 14 points. Forward/center Sharaunda Fiedtkou (fr. West Orange, NJ/Bayonne) finished the game with two free throws at the 28-second mark. Smith had 14 points in the stanza and Schullstrom produced 11.
