Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's soccer team defeated the College of Staten Island, 3-1 in a non-conference match on Wednesday evening.
 
The Profs (2-3) had 18 shots while the Dolphins (0-5) tallied nine. Rowan goalkeeper Kevin Vasta (sr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) recorded three saves. Goalie John Gioeli (so. Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea) stopped two shots.
 
Forward Travis Ward (fr. New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) scored Rowan's first two goals. He knocked in a pass from forward Andres Vargas (sr. Green Village, NJ/Chatham) at 29:46. The second goal came at 36:44. Midfielder Marco Fernandes (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) crossed the ball from the right side. Gioeli punched the ball out and Ward deposited the rebound.
 
Midfielder Nermin Kurtesi (so. Korle, Germany/Curtis) ended the shutout at 53:59. He blasted a free kick past Vasta into the right side of the net. Fernandes finished the scoring at 73:05 with an assist from midfielder Vinny Ignatowicz (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.).
 
Rowan faces John Jay College at home on Saturday, September 13 at 2:30 p.m.
