Box Score WAYNE, NJ – The Rowan University softball team defeated Rutgers-Camden, 1-0 in the second round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament. The conference tournament is being held Friday-Sunday, May 2-4 at William Paterson University.
The Profs (31-10) are seeded third and the Scarlet Raptors (18-15-1) are the sixth seed. In the first game on Friday, William Paterson won 6-1 against Richard Stockton College. The fourth seed Kean University edged the second seed Montclair State University, 3-2 in the last game on the day. On Saturday, Rowan plays William Paterson at noon.
Second baseman Alysa Romero (jr. Newfield, NJ/Vineland) had a single up the middle that scored left fielder Jennifer Arcella (sr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) in the fourth inning. Arcella reached base with a single and moved to second on a hit by designated player Ashley DeYoung (so. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills).
Right-hander Krysti Maronski (sr. Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology) only allowed one hit in her eighth shutout on the season. She (18-5) struck out 12 batters. Righty Brittany Scott (so. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) took the loss. Scott (16-13) gave up five hits.
Shortstop Shilah Snead (so. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) and Maronski each contributed with a hit. Shortstop Krystine Rice (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had the lone hit for Rutgers-Camden.
In the first round games, Rutgers-Camden upset the top seed William Paterson, 5-4 and the second seed Montclair State had a 2-0 shutout over the fifth seed Richard Stockton. The fourth seed Kean defeated Rowan, 4-2. The conference champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
