Box Score 2 GALLOWAY, NJ – The Rowan University softball team took both games of a conference doubleheader at Richard Stockton College, 5-2 and 4-1.
The Profs improve to 18-7 overall and 5-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Ospreys have an overall mark of 15-7 with a 4-4 NJAC record.
Right-hander Krysti Maronski (sr. Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology) was the winning pitcher in game one. She (10-3) threw a complete game, giving up two runs and six hits. Maronski struck out six batters. Righty Michelle Pietrocola (sr. North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) took the loss. She (9-3) went three innings, allowing five runs on four hits with six strikeouts. Brittany Ksiezopolski (jr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) pitched the final four frames for Stockton. She gave up three hits and struck out two.
Shortstop Shilah Snead (so. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) went three for three with a double and two runs scored for Rowan. She also stole two bases. Designated player Ashley DeYoung (so. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) was one for two with two RBIs. Center fielder Shannon Costello (jr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) had a double and drove in two runs. Left fielder Jennifer Arcella (sr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) and second baseman Alysa Romero (jr. Newfield, NJ/Vineland) each scored once.
For the Ospreys, catcher Nicole Scanlon (sr. Colonia, NJ/Colonia) had two hits (three at bats) with a home run. Designated player Nicole Chabak (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) hit a double.
Rowan put four runs on the board in the third. DeYoung drew a bases-loaded walk to score Snead. Costello hit a two-run double to center and pinch runner Sammy Vradenburg (fr. Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge) scored on a wild pitch. DeYoung drove in Snead with a single in the fourth and the Profs led 5-0. Stockton pushed two runs across in the sixth. Scanlon led off the inning with her first home run of the season. Pinch hitter Arielle Cooke (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) brought home pinch runner Taylor Hopf (so. Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) with a bases-loaded walk.
In the nightcap, Beth Ann Hyland (so. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) pitched a complete game for Rowan. She (8-4) allowed one run, scattered four hits and struck out four. Ksiezopolski suffered the loss (6-4), lasting 3.2 innings and giving up four runs, two earned on eight hits. Pietrocola went the final 3.1, allowing just one hit and striking out four.
Romero led the Profs with two hits (four at bats), two doubles and one RBI. Snead scored twice and drove in a run. First baseman Damariz Mercado (fr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) and Arcella knocked in one apiece. Catcher Meagan Lee (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) and right fielder Dana Cafone (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) both crossed the plate once.
For Stockton, first baseman Dominique Dorris (so. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) was two for three with a home run. Left fielder Marisa Ortiz (jr. Manchester, NJ/Manchester Twp.) and Cooke each contributed with a hit.
Snead led off the contest with her fourth home run of the year. Mercado scored Lee in the second with a single. In the fourth, Arcella hit a RBI single to center and Romero followed with a run-scoring double to give the Profs a 4-0 advantage. Dorris smacked her second home run of the season to get Stockton on the board in the fifth.
Rowan hosts Washington College (MD) for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, April 10 at 3 p.m.
