Box Score 2 Highlight Video 1 Highlight Video 2GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team swept a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader, 3-0 and 5-2 against Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday.
Right-hander Krysti Maronski (sr. Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gloucester Institute of Technology) recorded her seventh shutout in the opener. She (17-3) gave up five hits and had 11 strikeouts. Righty Brittany Scott (so. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) took the loss. She (13-11) allowed three runs on six hits.
Shortstop Shilah Snead (so. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) was two for four with a home run and two RBIs. Left fielder Jennifer Arcella (sr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) tallied a double and scored one run. Maronski had a RBI with a sacrifice fly. First baseman Damariz Mercado (fr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) produced a triple and one run scored.
For the Scarlet Raptors, catcher Tabby Dick (sr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) and Scott each had two hits in three at bats.
In the first inning, Snead put the Profs on the scoreboard with a solo shot to right center. It was her sixth home run on the season. Rowan added one run in the fifth and sixth innings. With the bases loaded in the fifth, Maronski's sac fly went to center field and Arcella crossed the plate. Mercado tripled to right center in the sixth and scored on a fielder's choice.
Right-handed pitcher Beth Ann Hyland (so. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) earned the victory in the second game of the twin bill. She (12-5) scattered four hits and gave up two unearned runs. Scott suffered her second loss on the day. Rowan has a 29-8 record with a 13-3 NJAC mark. Rutgers-Camden is 15-14-1 overall and 7-9 in the conference.
Arcella totaled three RBIs, one home run and two runs scored. Catcher Meagan Lee (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) posted two RBIs. Snead scored two runs and Mercado had one.
The Scarlet Raptors' left fielder Devon Welsh (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Audubon) had two hits in three at bats and one RBI. First baseman Jessea Macaluso (fr. Charlotte, NC/Allentown) contributed with one hit and one RBI. Center fielder Lindsay Day (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakrest) added one hit and one run scored. Shortstop Krystine Rice (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) scored one run.
The Profs had a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Lee ripped a single up the middle, scoring Snead and Arcella. Rowan was ahead 5-0 with three runs in the fifth. Arcella smacked a three-run homer to center field, which was her third this year. Rutgers-Camden's runs came in the seventh inning. Macaluso plated Rice with a single to right center field. Welsh drove in Day with a base hit.
Rowan ends the regular season at Montclair State University on Saturday, April 26 at 1 p.m.
