The Profs have a 23-8 record while Centenary is 7-20 overall. In the first game, right-hander Krysti Maronski (sr. Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology) recorded her sixth shutout and only gave up one hit. She (13-3) tied the school's strikeout record with 14 for the second time this season. Maronski also struck out 14 batters in a 3-1 win on opening day against Western Connecticut State University (Mar. 1). Righty Meagan Madsen (sr. New Milford, NJ/New Milford) took the loss. She (5-12) allowed seven runs on nine hits.
Shortstop Shilah Snead (so. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) produced a home run and three RBIs. Designated player Ashley DeYoung (so. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) contributed with two hits (three at bats) while Maronski had a double and two RBIs. First baseman Damariz Mercado (fr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) added one hit and a RBI. She also scored one run along with third baseman Amanda Toomer (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and left fielder Jennifer Arcella (sr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley).
The Profs had a 1-0 lead after the fourth inning. Romero singled to left field, scoring Arcella. Rowan tacked on six runs in the sixth. Maronski drove in two runs with a double to center field. Mercado had a RBI single and Snead followed with a three-run homer. It was her fifth home run this year.
Right-handed pitcher Beth Ann Hyland (so. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) had the win in the nightcap. In six innings, she (10-5) scattered five hits and gave up one run. Hyland totaled nine strikeouts. Kylie Morgan-Polefka (fr. Wharton, NJ/Boonton) was the losing pitcher. She (2-8) allowed 10 hits and five runs.
Arcella went two for four with two RBIs. DeYoung tallied two hits in four at bats and a home run. Mercado collected three hits in three trips to the plate and one RBI. She also scored one run. Catcher Meagan Lee (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) and Toomer had one hit and one run scored apiece. Snead crossed the plate one time.
For the Cyclones, first baseman Courtney Siero (fr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) was one for three with one RBI. Left fielder Becca Raymond (fr. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) and designated player Brittany Paulikas (fr. Fords, NJ/John F. Kennedy Mem.) each had a double.
In the first inning, Siero drove in Centenary's run with a single to center field. Rowan tied the score in the second when Mercado knocked in Lee. DeYoung's solo shot in the third inning put the Profs ahead 2-1. It was her 10th home run on the season. Arcella drove in two runs with a single in the fourth inning and Snead came home on an error.
