GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team swept Haverford College, 12-0 in five innings and 3-0 on Thursday afternoon.

In the opener, right-hander Krysti Maronski (sr. Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology) was the winning pitcher.  She (7-2) threw four innings and only gave up two hits.  Maronski struck out five batters.  Allison Nolan (so. Red Bank, NJ/Middletown S.) was on the mound for the fifth inning.  Lefty Sara Tauriello (so. Elma, NY/Iroquois) had the loss.  She (2-1) allowed seven runs, four earned on six hits.

Designated player Ashley DeYoung (so. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) led the Profs with three hits (three at bats), a double, one home run, four RBIs and one run scored.  Second baseman Alysa Romero (jr. Newfield, NJ/Vineland) and shortstop Shilah Snead (so. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) each contributed with two hits and one RBIs.  Romero scored three runs and Snead crossed the plate twice. 

Center fielder Shannon Costello (jr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), left fielder Jennifer Arcella (sr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) and third baseman Jessica Phillips (jr. Woolwich, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) registered one hit and one RBI apiece.  First baseman Damariz Mercado (fr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) chipped in with a double, two RBIs and one run scored.  Right fielder Dana Cafone (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) scored two runs.

For the Fords, left fielder Julie Garlick (jr. Waynesboro, PA/Mercersburg Academy) and second baseman Jill Schnall (jr. Wayne, NJ/Conestoga) each had one hit.  Rowan has a record of 13-4 while Haverford is 11-3 overall.

Rowan had a 7-0 lead after scoring four runs in the first inning and three in the second.  In the first, Romero knocked in Snead with a single up the middle.  DeYoung recorded a three-run homer to right center.  It was her fourth home run on the season.  Costello walked with the bases loaded in the second inning and Cafone scored.  DeYoung and Phillips both had a RBI single. 

The Profs tacked on five runs in the bottom of the fourth and the game ended early because of the eight-run rule after five innings.  With the bases loaded, Cafone was hit by a pitch and Romero came home.  Mercado recorded a two-RBI double.  Snead and Arcella singled in one run apiece.   

DeYoung recorded another home run in the second game.  She was two for three at the plate with a double.  Snead registered one hit and one RBI.  Romero produced a double and one RBI.  Arcella had one hit and scored one run.

Right-hander Beth Ann Hyland (so. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) recorded her second shutout.  She (6-2) scattered five hits and had five strikeouts.  Left-hander Claire Fitzgerald (sr. Montclair, NJ/Montclair) was the losing pitcher.  In three innings, she gave up five hits and three earned runs.

The Profs scored one run in the first, second and third innings.  Romero had a RBI double in the first inning that scored Arcella.  In the second, Costello went home on Snead's single through the left side.  DeYoung had a solo shot to left field in the third.

Rowan starts it conference schedule at home against Kean University on Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m.
