Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FL – The Rowan University softball team shut out Western New England University, 4-0 and Wesleyan University, 5-0 on Wednesday at the Dot Richardson Spring Games.
Right-hander Krysti Maronski (sr. Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gloucester Institute of Technology) recorded her third shutout of the season against Western New England. Maronski (5-2) only allowed five hits and totaled 10 strikeouts. Heidi Grieger was the losing pitcher. She (1-2) threw 5.2 innings and gave up eight hits and four earned runs.
Second baseman Alysa Romero (jr. Newfield, NJ/Vineland) contributed with one hit (three at bats) and two RBIs. First baseman Damariz Mercado (fr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) was two for two at the plate and had one run scored. Shortstop Shilah Snead (so. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) produced a double and scored two runs. Center fielder Shannon Costello (jr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) added one hit and one RBI. Right fielder Dana Cafone (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) scored one run.
For the Golden Bears, center fielder Maria Francese registered two hits in three at bats. Right fielder Jocelyn Agnelli and shortstop Gabby Lavinio each had one hit while pinch hitter Lauren Zambrano recorded a double.
The Profs had a 1-0 lead after the first inning. Snead led off with a double and she stole third. Costello drove in Snead with a base hit to left field. Rowan scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Mercado crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Romero knocked in Cafone and Snead with a single up the middle.
Righty Beth Ann Hyland (so. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) earned her fourth win on the mound versus Wesleyan. She (4-2) scattered four hits and struck out six batters. Right-hander Susan Pardo suffered her first loss. She (3-1) gave up nine hits and five runs, one earned.
Left fielder Jennifer Arcella (sr. Hillside, NJ/Pascack Valley) collected three hits (four at bats), one RBI and two runs scored. Snead registered two hits (three at bats), a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Costello added one hit and one RBI.
Rowan scored two runs in the third inning. Snead had a double and came home on a dropped fly ball with Arcella at bat. Costello later plated Arcella with a single to left field. The Profs added two more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. In the fifth inning, Arcella had a bunt single, scoring Snead. On a double steal, Arcella stole third then she crossed the plate on a throwing error. Catcher Meagan Lee (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) got on base in the sixth because of an error. She was replaced by pinch runner Sammy Vradenburg (fr. Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge). Snead had a sacrifice fly that scored Vradenburg.
