Softball Shuts Out Wis.-Stevens Point, 7-0 And Wins 3-1 Over Wis.-River Falls

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FL – The Rowan University softball team shut out Wis.-Stevens Point, 7-0 and won 3-1 over Wis.-River Falls on Sunday.  The Profs have a six-game win streak in Florida and they are 7-3 overall. 

Right-hander Beth Ann Hyland (so. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) threw six innings for the victory against Wis.-Stevens Point.  Hyland (3-2) only gave up four hits and she had five strikeouts.  Righty Ashley Rothmund was on the mound for three innings and had the loss.  She allowed six hits and two earned runs.

Second baseman Alysa Romero (jr. Newfield, NJ/Vineland) was three for three at the plate with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored.  Designated player Ashley DeYoung (so. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) produced two hits (four at bats), a home run and three RBIs.  Shortstop Shilah Snead (so. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) contributed with three hits in four at bats and scored two runs.  Left fielder Jennifer Arcella (sr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) added one hit and two runs scored.  Center fielder Shannon Costello (jr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) chipped in with two hits in three trips to the plate.

For the Pointers, second baseman Paige Meulemans was two for three.  Third baseman/pitcher Breanne Ellison, designated player Sydney Gorges and shortstop Madalyn Sawdey all had one hit.

The Profs got on the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  With two outs, Romero had a single up the middle and DeYoung followed with a home run to left field.  Rowan had a 4-0 lead after two runs in the fourth inning.  Snead reached base with a single to center field and later scored on a wild pitch.  Arcella also crossed the plate on a wild pitch.  Rowan scored three runs in the sixth.  Romero recorded a two RBI double, scoring Snead and Arcella.  DeYoung singled home Romero.

Right-hander Krysti Maronski (sr. Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology) was the winning pitcher versus Wis.-River Falls.  In seven innings, Maronski (4-1) scattered four hits and gave up one earned run.  She struck out seven batters.  Righty Brooke Lauritzen had the loss.  She pitched 4.2 innings and allowed six hits and three earned runs.

Romero went two for three with one RBI and one run scored.  Arcella hit a double and had one RBI and one run scored.  Catcher Meagan Lee (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) registered one hit (three at bats) and one RBI.  Right fielder Dana Cafone (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) was two for three at the plate with one run scored.

The Falcons' left fielder Kaitlyn Lepine had one hit in three at bats and one RBI.  Right fielder Kati Stodolka scored the lone run.  First baseman Abby Veloske recorded a double.

Wis.-River Falls scored its run in the top of the first inning.  Stodolka reached base on a fielder's choice and went to second on an illegal pitch.  She came home on Lepine's single up the middle.  Rowan tied the score in the fourth with a RBI single by Lee.  The Profs took the lead 3-1 in the fifth inning.  Arcella doubled to left field, scoring Cafone.  Romero knocked in Arcella with a single up the middle. 

Rowan has a break in its schedule on Monday and returns to action on Tuesday, March 18 against FDU-Florham at 1 p.m. and Worcester State University at 3 p.m.
