Softball Defeats Carroll, 11-1 and Wisconsin-Stout, 1-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FL – The Rowan University softball team had two more wins at the Dot Richardson Spring Games on Saturday.  The Profs defeated Carroll University, 11-1 in five innings and the University of Wisconsin-Stout, 1-0 in eight innings.

Rowan improves to 5-3 on the season.  Against Carroll, right-hander Beth Ann Hyland (so. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) threw three innings for the win.  She (2-2) only gave up one hit.  Righty Natalie Ruechel had the loss on the mound.

Left fielder Jennifer Arcella (sr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) contributed with three hits (three at bats), a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored.  Second baseman Alysa Romero (jr. Newfield, NJ/Vineland) was three for four at the plate with three RBIs and one run scored.  Shortstop Shilah Snead (so. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) chipped in with two hits (two at bats), one RBI and she scored three runs. 

Catcher Meagan Lee (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) had two RBIs.  Center fielder Shannon Costello (jr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) registered two hits in three at bats, one double and one run scored.  Right fielder Dana Cafone (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) was two for two with a double, one RBI and one run scored.

For the Pioneers, third baseman Rebecca Menelle recorded a solo home run.  Catcher Hannah Sanidas and right fielder Rebecca Ciampa each had one hit.

The Profs had a 2-0 lead after the first inning.  Arcella drove in Snead with a single through the left side.  Lee's sacrifice fly scored Arcella.  Rowan tacked on five runs in the second.  With the bases loaded, Arcella was hit by a pitch and Cafone came home.  Designated player Ashley DeYoung (so. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) singled home Arcella.  Romero knocked in two runs with a base hit up the middle and she scored on a sac fly by Lee.

Menelle homered in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Rowan produced four runs in the fifth inning and the game ended early because of the eight run rule.  Cafone had a sacrifice fly and Costello crossed the plate.  Snead had a RBI single and Arcella tripled in a run.  Romero followed with a hit up the middle that scored Arcella.

Arcella scored the winning run versus Wisconsin-Stout.  She started on second base because of the international tie-breaker rule. DeYoung had a single through the right side that brought Arcella home.

Right-hander Krysti Maronski (sr. Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology) earned her second shutout on the season.  She (3-1) scattered four hits and struck out eight batters.  Righty Tori Workman pitched two innings in the loss.

DeYoung ended the game with two hits in four at bats.  Snead had three hits (four at bats) and a triple.  Romero contributed with two hits while first baseman Damariz Mercado (fr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) and Maronski added one apiece.   

On Sunday, Rowan continues it spring trip with games against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 9 a.m. and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls at 11 a.m.
