LINCOLN, NE – The Rowan University women's indoor track team had three athletes that competed on the first day of the NCAA Division III Championships on Friday. The Profs broke three school records and Jamie Thompson earned All-America in the long jump. The national championships are being held at the University of Nebraska's Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Thompson (sr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) took sixth place in the long jump with 18' 1.75" (5.53 meters). She improved on her school record (18' 1", 5.50 meters) from this season at the conference championships. The top eight finishers at the national championships receive All-America honors.
Thompson also came in fifth in the 60 meter hurdles prelims with a Rowan record time of 8.78. She held the previous University mark that was 8.85. Thompson is one of eight athletes that advanced to the final on Saturday at 3:15 p.m.
Shailah Williams (so. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) set a school record in the 200 meters with a time of 24.86. She won the fourth heat in the prelims and was fourth overall to move on to Saturday's final at 5:15 p.m. The old record was 24.92 by Williams. She also qualified for the final in the 60 meter dash at 4:25 p.m. Williams was eighth in the prelims with a time of 7.72.
Melirah Searcy (jr. Edison, NJ/Edison) finished 14th in the 400 meters prelims. She ran 57.66 which tied her season best.
