NJAC CHAMPS! Women's Track & Field Takes Home First Conference Championship Since 2019

MAHWAH, NJ -- The Rowan Women's Track & Field Team won its first NJAC Championship since the 2019 season, unseating TCNJ in its quest for a sixth-straight title as the Profs totaled 211.5 points over the two-day meet held at Ramapo.

The title is the eighth in program history and first under head coach Shedrick Elliott III.

The Profs took home three first-place finishes on Sunday and a bevy of top 5 results to stave off the Lions (207 points) for the NJAC crown. Stockton took third (133) while Montclair State was fourth (113).

Sunday's recap:

- Nyla Jones swept both the 100 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles for the second year in a row; Her time of 13.92 in the 100 hurdles was just off by 0.03 of her school record set earlier this season while her time of 1:02.26 in the 400 hurdles was close enough to edge out TCNJ's Mackenzie Burke by only 0.04 seconds

- Gabriella Pagano was victorious in the 5000 meters for the second-straight season 17:39.20 with Jezena Aponte in second (17:49.54); Pagano (4:43.44), Aponte (4:47.33), and Ally Wernik (4:48.47) all went second, third, and fourth in the 1500 meters

On Saturday:

- Bree Cooney led a 1-2-3 sweep in the hammer, as her top mark of 47.18 meters was a PR; Katie Little (45.64 meters) and Lexi Bey (43.71 meters) went second and third respectively

- Emily Zanni claimed the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:49.93) with Emily Fraser in third (12:01.97)

- PR's went to Alaijha Wilson (40.75 meters) in second place and Katie Little in third (36.82 meters) in the discus

- Shannon Stakelbeck (39:47.18) ran a PR time in the 10,000 meters to finish second; Maggie Michelet (39:47.39) and Juliana Sieminski (40:09.73) took third and fourth respectively

Select members will head to Widener's Last Chance meet on Monday, May 11th before the team competes at the AARTFC Regional Championships at Ursinus on May 13-14.
