NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University women's indoor track team won the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship for the second straight year. The conference championships were held at the Armory.
The Profs were conference champions in six individual events and three relays. They broke three NJAC championship records and three Rowan school records. Shailah Williams (so. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) was the winner in the 60 meter dash with a conference record time of 7.71. The previous mark was 7.79 by Ramapo College's Anita Rogers (2013). Williams came in first (24.92) in the 200 meters. Her time improved on the University record (25.54) that she held. Williams also had a sixth place (4' 11", 1.50 meters) in the high jump.
Jamie Thompson (sr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) won the 60 meter hurdles in 9.01 for her second consecutive NJAC title. Her prelim time of 8.85 improved on the NJAC record (9.10) that she set last year. Thompson tied the school mark (8.85), which she is the record holder. Thompson also captured first place in the long jump with a school record 18' 1" (5.51 meters). She broke her University mark of 17' 10.75" (5.45 meters). Tashay Wilson (jr. Hillside, NJ/Hillside) took first (58.38) in the 400 meters while Melirah Searcy (jr. Edison, NJ/Edison) was the winner (2:14.68) in the 800 meters. Searcy improved on her school record of 2:17.31.
The 4x400 meter relay won in 3:56.62, which was a NJAC record. The old mark was 3:56.64 by The College of New Jersey (2003). The 4x400 consisted of Brianna Crofton (jr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.), Amanda Brown (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison), Williams and Thompson. The 4x800 meter relay had a winning time of 9:37.94 with Jessalynn Wright (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), Vanessa Valdes (so. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack), Wilson and Searcy.
The distance medley relay of Larissa Pywowariw (fr. Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown Reg.), Valdes, Lexxus Matos (fr. Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) and Christin Bettis (so. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) took first with a time of 12:51.86. The 4x200 meter relay finished in second place (1:44.06). Kelly Vogt (fr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon), Searcy, Nia Lawrence (fr. Hainesport, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) and Amanda Brown were on the 4x200.
Jessica Carlson (sr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) took second (9.31) in the 60 meter hurdles and Paige Brown (fr. Princeton, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.) was third (9.32). Carlson also finished third (35' 11.25", 10.95 meters) in the triple jump. Wright had a second place (2:15.05) in the 800 meters. Paige Brown came in second (5' 3", 1.60 meters) in the high jump and Sam Kamper (sr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) was fourth (5' 1", 1.55 meters).
Meghan Borz (sr. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) finished third (18:30.19) in the 5000 meters and eighth (10:54.37) in the 3000 meters. Amanda Brown had a third place (26.53) in the 200 meters. In the 60 meter dash, Lawrence came in fourth (8.09) followed by Shantel Beckford (jr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), fifth (8.10). Crofton finished fourth (59.57) in the 400 meters.
Wilson had a fourth place (16' 5.25", 5.01 meters) in the long jump while Paige Brown and Nicole Ras (fr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) were sixth (16' 3.25", 4.96 meters) and ninth (16', 4.88 meters) respectively. Vogt came in fifth (26.59) in the 200 meters. In the triple jump, Paige Brown was fifth (35' 4", 10.77 meters) followed by Beckford, sixth (34' 7.75", 10.56 meters).
Priscila Antuna (sr. Waretown, NJ/Southern Reg.) was seventh (19:06.99) in the 5000 meters followed by Onyi Obelle (so. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack), eighth (19:09.28). In the 3000 meters, Pywowariw finished 10th (11:15.93) and Antuna was 11th (11:22.01). Katie Juniewicz (fr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) had a seventh place (5:27.25) in the mile run and Samantha Stapleton (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) was eighth (5:30.41).
Amanda Brown came in eighth (1:00.83) in the 400 meters. Alexis Brown (fr. Vineland, NJ/Delsea Reg.) tied for ninth (9' 4.25", 2.85 meters) in the pole vault and Kayla Leahey (sr. Keansburg, NJ/Warwick Valley) was 11th (9' 4.25", 2.85 meters). Ras tied for ninth (4' 9", 1.45 meters) in the high jump and Claire Corbett (fr. Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) came in 10th (2:30.29) in the 800 meters.
