Rowan Women's Basketball Drops Season Finale To Stockton, 79-68

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan women's basketball team ended the season with a 79-68 defeat to Richard Stockton College on Wednesday night.

The Ospreys improve to 12-13 overall and finish with a 9-9 record in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). They will be the fifth seed in the NJAC Championship Tournament. Forward Cara Parliament (jr. Manchester Twp., NJ/Manchester Twp.) registered a double-double with 21 points and 18 rebounds. Forward Lauren Alwan (jr. Winslow Twp., NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) followed with 15 points, while guard Taylor Christina (fr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) and forward Sara Farrell (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) scored 14 and 13 points respectively. Farrell had nine rebounds and Alwan tallied eight.

The Profs finish the year with a 6-19 overall record and a 5-13 conference mark. Guard Bria Hill (jr. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) led Rowan with 17 points. Forward Megan Russ (sr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Twp.) ended her career with a career-high 10 points. Guards Alex Raring (fr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) and Valerie Garofalo (fr. Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) chipped in with seven points apiece. Center Kate Matthews (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) had eight rebounds and guard Jade Bonder (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) dished six assists.

The Ospreys led 16-12 with 10:55 remaining in the first half. Hill and Raring each hit a jumper to tie the score at 16 (10:08). Stockton scored the next six points to take a 22-16 advantage (8:18). Forward Paige Anastasi (fr. Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.), Parliament and Christina all made a basket. The Ospreys were in front 24-18 before the Profs went on a 6-0 run to tie the score at 24 (5:21). Hill tallied four points and center Annie Wenz (fr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) had two. The score was 29-29 with 2:57 left then Stockton ended the period with a 7-2 surge. Alwan recorded all seven points in the spurt and led the Ospreys with nine points in the first stanza. Hill had ten points for Rowan.

Stockton opened the second half with a 15-4 run to lead by 16 (51-35) with 14:13 left. Guard Alex Nardoza (jr. Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) scored five points and Parliament had four, while guard Francesca Gervato (fr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Farrell and Alwan contributed with two apiece. Raring's three-pointer cut the deficit to 11 (54-43) with 12:23 on the clock. Christina hit a jumper and the Ospreys led 70-53 (7:24). Guard Anyssa Sanchez (fr. Stratford, NJ/Sterling) made two free throws and Rowan trailed by 13 (73-60) at 3:30. Parliament nailed two jump shots to give Stockton a 77-60 advantage (2:49). Guard Shaniece Bannister (fr. Irvington, NJ/St. Mary of the Assumption) converted a layup to put the Profs within nine (77-68) with 31 seconds remaining. Gervato ended the scoring with a layup (0:02). Parliament recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds in the second half.
