Women's Indoor Track Competes At Lafayette-Rider Winter Games

NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University women's indoor track team competed in the college section of the Lafayette-Rider Winter Games on Friday.  The meet was held at the Armory.

Melirah Searcy (jr. Edison, NJ/Edison) won the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.31 and Jessalynn Wright (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) followed second (2:18.02). Searcy broke the University record of 2:17.66, which was held by Rachel Byrne (2010). The 4x800 meter relay finished fourth (10:23.31) and the 4x400 meter relay was fifth (3:55.48).  The 4x800 included Brianna Crofton (jr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.), Grace Kaler (sr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills), Samantha Farina (jr. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.) and Kathryn Juniewicz (fr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami).  Tashay Wilson (jr. Hillside, NJ/Hillside), Wright, Shailah Williams (so. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) and Searcy were on the 4x400. 

Williams ran a school record of 25.54 in the 200 meters for sixth place.  She held the previous mark, which was 25.83.  She also took seventh (7.93) in the 60 meters.  Jessica Carlson (sr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) came in fifth (35' 3", 10.74 meters) in the triple jump and sixth (9.29) in the 60 meter hurdles.  Jamie Thompson (sr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) had a sixth place (17' 3.5", 5.27 meters) in the long jump.

Paige Brown (fr. Princeton, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.) tied for ninth (5' 1", 1.55 meters) in the high jump and was 14th (16' 2.5", 4.94 meters) in the long jump.  Jess Lomonaco (sr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) finished ninth (36' 6.75", 11.41 meters) in the weight throw.  In the 60 meter hurdles, Brown and Felicia Smith (fr. Neptune, NJ/Neptune) were 10th (9.38) and 14th (9.46) respectively.  Juniewicz finished 10th (5:29.00) in the mile followed by Farina, 11th (5:31.93) and Samantha Stapleton, 12th (5:34.50).  Kaler came in 13th (5:35.68) and Larissa Pywowariw (fr. Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown Reg.) was 14th (5:37.87).   

Nia Lawrence (fr. Hainesport, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) had an 11th place (8.01) in the 60 meters and was 20th (26.55) in the 200 meters. Wilson finished 12th (2:23.95) in the 800 meters.  Crofton took 15th (1:00.09) in the 400 meters.  Pywowariw was 19th (11:19.59) in the 3000 meters.   

Next week, Rowan competes at the Princeton University Invitational on Sunday, February 23 at 11 a.m.
