Men's Basketball Wins 87-71 At The College of New Jersey

Box Score EWING, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team won 87-71 at conference opponent The College of New Jersey on Wednesday night.

The Profs had five players in double figures.  Guard Jason Rosenberg (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) totaled 16 points, eight assists and six rebounds.  Guards Rich McNamara (sr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) and Tim McDaniels (sr. Mount Holly, NJ/Lenape) each contributed with 15 points.  Forward Jason Sofman (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) followed with 14 points while guard Kris O'Connor (so. Mount Laurel, NJ/Paul VI) added 10. 

Rowan improves to 12-11 overall and 7-9 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  TCNJ has an 8-15 record and a 6-10 conference mark.  Forward Bobby Brackett (so. Lawrence, NJ/Lawrence) led the Lions with game highs of 24 points and 19 boards.  Guard Jayson Johnson (jr. Bordentown, NJ/Life Center Academy) and forward Skyelar Ettin (jr. Princeton, NJ/Princeton) each registered 10 points. 

In the first half, McDaniels' three-pointer (18:19) knotted the score at five.  The Profs tacked on 11 unanswered points to lead 16-5 at 14:22.  McDaniels hit another three while Sofman, McNamara, O'Connor and Rosenberg all had one basket.  Brackett's layup at 12:20 cut the deficit to two (16-14).  Rosenberg followed with a three (11:57) and a layup plus a foul shot (11:32).  Sofman contributed with a layup at 11:06, which put Rowan ahead by 10 (24-14).  Guard Eric Klacik (fr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) pulled the Lions within five points (26-21) after a three-pointer and free throw with 9:20 remaining.  O'Connor's two foul shots made the score 34-25 at 6:14.  Rowan guard Matt Whitworth (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) sank back-to-back threes at 3:37 and 2:39 for a 13-point advantage (40-27).  With 29 seconds left, forward Chris Gross (so. Cranford, NJ/Roselle Catholic) had two points at the line for the Profs.  Brackett's layup at the two-second mark ended the period.  Rowan was ahead 43-33.

Johnson scored the first basket at 19:37 in the second stanza.  Rowan then had a 14-0 surge to lead 57-35 with 15:59 remaining.  McNamara produced six points while O'Connor chipped in with three, Sofman and Rosenberg had two apiece and McDaniels made a foul shot.  The Profs were up 67-46 (10:28) then scored seven straight points for a 30-point advantage (76-46) with 7:24 left.  TCNJ trailed by 15 points (80-65) at 2:06 after a three-pointer by Ettin.  Rosenberg had a layup with 1:06 on the clock, which made the score 87-67.  Forward Sean Anukwuem (fr. East Hanover, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) had two foul shots (0:39) and a basket (0:12) for the Lions to end the game.

Rowan is on the road again at Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, February 15 at 8 p.m.
