Women's Volleyball Tops New Jersey City, 3-0

Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's volleyball team defeated New Jersey City University, 3-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match on Thursday night.
 
The set scores were 25-14, 25-23 and 25-10. The Profs have a record of 7-12 and they are 2-2 in the conference. The Gothic Knights' overall mark is 2-12 and they are 0-4 in the NJAC.
 
Middle hitter Morgan Mende (jr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) led the Profs with 10 kills and a .471 hitting percentage. Outside hitter Danielle Havlicek (jr. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) tallied nine kills, had a hitting percentage of .467 and six digs. Setters Mary-Grace Testa (fr. Kearny, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) and Rebecca Dantonio (so. Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) recorded 18 and 14 assists respectively. Libero Jennifer Vorel (so. Madison, NJ/Madison) collected nine digs, while outside hitter Erica O'Hagan (so. Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) had five.
 
Outside hitter Elyssa Magee (so. Kearny, NJ/Kearny) accumulated five kills and nine digs for the Gothic Knights. Setter Rachel McIntyre (fr. Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) had 11 assists and outside hitter/middle hitter Jade Medley (sr. Queens, NY/Hudson Catholic) had five digs.
 
Rowan jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set on a kill by O'Hagan. The Profs had a 4-2 advantage and then scored the next four points to extend the lead to 8-2. Testa had two kills in the run. A kill by O'Hagan made the score 14-6. Rowan led 20-11 and scored five of the final eight points of the set.
 
NJCU took a 5-1 lead in the second set. Rowan went ahead 9-8 on a kill by Havlicek. The Gothic Knights led 12-10, but the Profs used a 6-0 run take a 16-12 lead. A kill by Medley tied the set at 19. The score was then knotted at 20, 21, 22 and 23. O'Hagan's kill and a service ace by Mende gave Rowan the set.
 
The Profs scored the first three points of the third set. They took an 11-4 advantage on back-to-back service aces by Vorel and a kill by Testa. A service ace by Havlicek extended Rowan's advantage to 19-6. The Profs led 20-9 then opposite/outside hitter Kelsey Mazurek (jr. Easton, PA/Easton) tallied three straight kills and O'Hagan had a kill for a 24-9 lead. Middle hitter/outside hitter Maggie Catherina (jr. Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield Mem.) ended the match with a kill.
 
Next, Rowan travels to Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday, October 7 at 7 p.m.
