Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's volleyball team defeated William Paterson University, 3-0 on Thursday night in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match.
The set scores were 25-15, 25-21 and 25-13. The Profs are 12-13 overall and 5-2 in the NJAC. The Pioneers have a record of 16-5 and they are 2-4 in the conference.
Middle hitter
Morgan Mende (jr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) led Rowan with 12 kills, a .500 hitting percentage and four blocks. Opposite/outside hitter
Kelsey Mazurek (jr. Easton, PA/Easton Area) added eight kills and she had a .467 hitting percentage. Outside hitter
Danielle Havlicek (jr. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) recorded seven kills. Setters
Mary-Grace Testa (fr. Kearny, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) and
Rebecca Dantonio (so. Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) produced 18 and 13 assists respectively. Libero
Jennifer Vorel (so. Madison, NJ/Madison) accumulated 14 digs. Outside hitter
Erica O'Hagan (so. Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) collected 12 digs and six kills.
For William Paterson, outside hitter Daniella Salemo (sr. Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) tallied nine digs and six kills. Setter Alaina Clark (sr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) had seven assists and setter Danielle Koukos (sr. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) added five assists. Middle hitter Shauna VanDeRee (sr. Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) amassed nine digs, while outside hitter Erin Roach (so. Clark, NJ/Union County Vo-Tech) had seven.
The first set was tied at five then Rowan went on a 6-1 run to take an 11-6 lead. The Profs held a 13-10 advantage and scored the next three points (16-10). William Paterson cut the deficit to 16-12, but Rowan ended the set with a 9-3 spurt. Mende had two kills and O'Hagan contributed with one.
The score was tied six times early in set two. The set was knotted at 10 then Rowan tallied four straight points. The Pioneers tied the score at 15, but a William Paterson service error and two service aces by Mende gave Rowan an 18-15 advantage. The set was tied at 20 and 21 then the Profs recorded the final four points. Havlicek and Mende each had a kill and Vorel produced a service ace.
In the third set, Rowan jumped out to a 6-1 lead. The Profs extended the advantage to 11-3 on a kill by Mazurek. Mende's kill made the score 17-8 and Testa's service ace expanded the lead to 20-8. Rowan went on to win the third set.
Next, Rowan hosts Kean University on Tuesday, October 21 at 7 p.m.
