Box Score WAYNE, NJ – Rowan University won its second straight New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match, 3-0 at William Paterson University on Thursday night. The Profs won 25-15, 26-24, 26-24 to take their record to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Middle hitter Morgan Mende (so. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) and outside hitter Danielle Havlicek (so. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) led Rowan with 16 kills apiece. Mende also recorded three digs, while Havlicek had six. Setter Rebecca Dantonio (fr. Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) accumulated 49 assists. Libero Casey Grasso (sr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) and defensive specialist Lauren Ruffalo (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had great matches defensively as they tallied 18 and 11 digs respectively. Setter Nicole Ciandella (sr. Hoboken, NJ/Roselle Catholic) chipped in with five service aces and four digs.
Rowan jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first set. The Pioneers who are now 10-3 overall and 1-2 in the NJAC, could only get as close as 12-8 midway through the set. The Profs extended their margin and eventually won 25-15. William Paterson took the early lead in set two, 5-2. The set was tied at eight, but the Pioneers then took a 16-9 advantage. Rowan went on an 11-4 run to tie the set at 20. The set was then tied at 24, but it was Rowan who scored the final two points to win 26-24.
The Profs went out in front in the final set and led 16-9, but this time it was William Paterson who came back and finally tied the third set at 24. Once again though, Rowan scored the final two points to take the set 26-24 and the match 3-0.
Rowan is back on the court tomorrow as it travels to York, PA to play in the Spartan Invitational. The Profs will face Stevenson University at 3 p.m. and Moravian College at 7 p.m.
