Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan University defeated Rutgers-Newark, 3-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action on Tuesday night. The Profs won with scores of 25-15, 25-8 and 25-20.
Rowan is now 6-5 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC and the Scarlet Raiders have a 4-3 record with a 0-2 conference mark.
Leading the way was outside hitter Danielle Havlicek (so. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) as she recorded 12 kills and a dig. Middle hitter Dakota Oeskovic (sr. Pine Beach, NJ/Toms River S.) had 10 kills, two digs and two blocks. Setter Rebecca Dantonio (fr. Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) accumulated 39 assists and five digs on the night, while libero Casey Grasso (sr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) tallied 15 digs. Outside Hitter Erica O'Hagan (fr. Cedar Grove, PA/Cedar Grove) had 10 digs and three kills in the victory.
The two teams played even to start the first set and the score was tied at 11. The Profs outscored the Scarlet Raiders, 14-3 the rest of the way to win the first set, 25-15. In the second set, Rowan jumped out to a 12-4 lead and never looked back, winning by a 17-point margin. Rutgers-Newark started the third set strong, taking a 4-1 lead, but Rowan eventually tied the score at 10. The score was then tied at 18, but the Profs used a 7-2 spurt to take the set 25-20 and win the match.
Rowan will return to action on Thursday, September 26 at William Paterson University at 7 p.m.
