GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team is seeded second in the NCAA Regional Tournament that will be held in Babson Park, MA on Thursday-Monday, May 9-13. Rowan (37-7) plays the seventh seed Husson University (30-10-1) on Thursday at 4 p.m.
The national softball tournament is double elimination. The other schools included in the regional are: #1 Tufts University (38-3), #3 Babson College (32-12), #4 Springfield College (26-18), #5 St. Joseph’s College (ME) (33-11), #6 Bridgewater State University (26-15) and #8 Lesley University (24-17). The regional winner advances to the national championship that is scheduled for Friday-Tuesday, May 17-21 at Carson Park in Eau Claire, WI.
Rowan received an at-large bid to the national tournament. This is the Profs’ 21st appearance and third straight in the NCAAs. Rowan has advanced to the national finals three times and finished fourth in 1994 and 1993. This is Husson’s fifth straight trip to the NCAAs. The Eagles received an automatic berth as the champion of the North Atlantic Conference.
Tufts captured the New England Small College Athletic Conference title and the automatic bid. The Jumbos are in the postseason for the 13th time. Also receiving automatic qualifications were St. Joseph’s (Great Northeast Atlantic Conference), Bridgewater State (Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference), Lesley (New England Collegiate Conference) and Springfield College (New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference). Babson was an at-large selection from Pool C. This is the Beavers’ third (2005, 2006) NCAA appearance.
Bridgewater State has made the national tournament 21 times with the last one in 2009. The Bears finished second in 1994. Springfield made it to the NCAAs in 2009. The Pride has advanced to the postseason seven times. Lesley is making its fourth appearance while it is the third straight for St. Joseph’s.

There are 62 teams that are competing in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Tournament. There are seven eight team regional sites and one six team regional. Forty-one conferences received automatic bids (Pool A) and two independents were selected for the championship from Pool B. The 19 remaining schools were selected on an at-large basis from the automatic qualifying conferences and the remaining independent institutions.
