PRINCETON, NJ – The Rowan University women’s track and field team traveled to Princeton University for the Sam Howell Invitational on Saturday. The two-day meet included teams from Division I, II and III.
Vanessa Wright (sr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) won the 3000 meters with a school record of 9:47.75. She broke the previous time, 10:08.12 by Sue Zaborski in 1982. Melissa Lake (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) came in second in the javelin with a throw of 132’ 9” (40.47 meters).
The 4x400 meter relay took third in 3:53.49 with Melirah Searcy (so. Edison, NJ/Edison), Shailah Williams (fr. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton Twp.), Joyce Perry (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) and Brianna Crofton (so. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.). They improved on the school record of 3:53.75 from earlier this season. The 4x100 meter relay had a fifth place in 48.17. The 4x100 consisted of Williams, Jamie Thompson (jr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick), Shantel Beckford (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) and Crofton.
Jewel Brown (fr. Clayton, NJ/Clayton) tied for fifth in the triple jump with 37’ 3.75” (11.37 meters). Her distance was better than her school mark of 36’ 7.75” (11.17 meters). Thompson had a sixth place (14.84) in the 100 meter hurdles. She tied for 15th (16’ 1.5”, 4.91 meters) in the long jump and was 16th (1:06.39) in the 400 meter hurdles.
Sarah Dores (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Holy Cross) had an eighth place (121’ 5”, 37 meters) in the javelin. Beckford came in 11th (36’ 0.25”, 10.98 meters) in the triple jump and 23rd (12.86) in the 100 meters. Crofton came in 12th (57.81) in the 400 meters followed by Searcy, 13th (58.09). Searcy also had a 12th place (1:05.11) in the 400 meter hurdles.
In the hammer, Jess Lomonaco (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) and Emily Spieker (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) were 12th (143’ 9”, 43.83 meters) and 18th (134’ 6”, 40.99 meters) respectively. Lomonaco improved on her school mark of 143’ 6” (43.74 meters) from last season. Williams tied for 13th (12.58) in the 100 meters and was 14th (25.42) in the 200 meters. In the 100 hurdles, Perry finished 15th (15.50) and Jessica Carlson (jr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) was 22nd (16.03). Perry was also 15th (1:06.29) in the 400 meter hurdles.
Next week, Rowan has a dual meet at Georgian Court University on Wednesday, April 10 at 3:30 p.m.
