MAHWAH, NJ – The Rowan University softball team won 3-0 and 11-0 in five innings against Ramapo College on Sunday afternoon.
The Profs, ranked 11th in the nation, are 28-4 overall and 9-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Roadrunners are 13-11 on the season and 4-6 in the conference.
Right-hander LeAnne Miller (sr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) recorded her sixth shutout in the first game. She (16-2) scattered nine hits and had seven strikeouts. Righty Harley Masiello (jr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) had the loss. She (7-5) gave up four hits and three earned runs.
Left fielder Jennifer Arcella (jr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) was one for three with a double and two RBIs. Second baseman Alysa Romero (so. Newfield, NJ/Vineland) recorded a home run. Third baseman Jess Phillips (so. Woolwich, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and shortstop Shilah Snead (fr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) each scored one run. For Ramapo, center fielder Jaclyn Lima (so. Linden, NJ/Linden), shortstop Kelsey Higgins (sr. Wall, NJ/Wall) and first baseman Janet Brown (sr. Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) each had two hits in three at bats.
All three of the Profs’ runs came in the fifth inning. Romero led off with a home run to left field. Arcella knocked in Phillips and Snead with a double to left center field.
In the nightcap, right-hander Krysti Maronski (jr. Woodbury Heights, NJ/GCIT) struck out 10 batters in her 10th victory on the mound. She (10-1) only allowed two hits. Lefty Nicole Schneider (jr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) was the losing pitcher. She (5-6) gave up five runs, four earned.
First baseman Stephanie Labas (sr. Millville, NJ/Millville) was three for four with five RBIs and a home run. Center fielder Shannon Costello (so. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) contributed with three hits (three at bats), a double and one run scored. Designated player Ashley DeYoung (fr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) added two hits (four at bats) a double, one RBI and one run scored.
Phillips produced one hit in two at bats, one RBI and two runs scored. Arcella registered a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Snead chipped in with two hits (three at bats), one RBI and two runs scored. Catcher Meagan Lee (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) had a double and one RBI. Romero tallied a double and scored one run.
Rowan got on the scoreboard in the third inning with three runs. Labas recorded a two-run homer, which was her seventh on the season. Lee knocked in DeYoung with a double to left field. The Profs scored four more runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Costello scored on an error in the fourth and Arcella doubled in Phillips and Snead. Labas followed with a base hit that scored Arcella. In the fifth, Phillips had a single, scoring Romero. Labas posted a two-RBI base hit and DeYoung had a RBI single.
