LAKEWOOD, NJ – The Rowan University women’s track and field team defeated Georgian Court University, 122.50-73.50 in a dual meet on Wednesday. The Profs took first place in 10 individual events and won all three relays.
The 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays ran winning times of 48.03 and 4:02.45 respectively. The 4x100 included Shailah Williams (fr. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton Twp.), Joyce Perry (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick), Shantel Beckford (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) and Brianna Crofton (so. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg). Tashay Wilson (so. Hillside, NJ/Hillside), Melirah Searcy (so. Edison, NJ/Edison), Perry and Crofton were on the 4x400. The distance medley relay was first in 13:22.05 with Alexus Streater (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Vanessa Valdes (fr. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack), Christina Ricci (fr. Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) and Samantha Stapleton (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown).
Williams was the winner in the 100 (12.27) and 200 (24.92) meters. Her time in the 200 meters broke the school record of 25.09 by Karen Corsey (1991). She also tied for fourth (5’ 0.25”, 1.53 meters) in the high jump. Vanessa Wright (sr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) took first place in the 1500 meters (5:01.32) and 800 meters (2:25.03). Melissa Lake (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) was the winner in the javelin with a toss of 142’ 10.5” (43.55 meters).
Crofton won the 400 meters in 57.93 and was second (25.70) in the 200 meters. Jamie Thompson (jr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) came in first (14.32) in the 100 meter hurdles, second in the long jump (17’ 1”, 5.21 meters) and third (1:05.66) in the 400 meter hurdles Jessalynn Wright (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had a first place in the pole vault with a height of 9’ 4.25” (2.85 meters) and she was third in the 800 meters (2:27.67). Jewel Brown (fr. Clayton, NJ/Clayton) won the triple jump with 36’ 4” (11.07 meters). She was also third in the 400 meters (1:00.80) and the long jump (15’ 8.25”, 4.78 meters).
Christin Bettis (fr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) finished first (11:54.3) in the 3000 meter steeplechase and was third (5:08.68) in the 1500 meters. Searcy had a second place (1:05.19) in the 400 meter hurdles. Wilson was second (59.16) in the 400 meters and third (26.38) in the 200 meters. Meghan Borz (jr. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) had a second place (5:04.58) in the 1500 meters and Stapleton was second (2:27.62) in the 800 meters. Jessica Carlson (jr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) finished second in the 100 meter hurdles (14.73) and the triple jump (36’ 0.75”, 10.99 meters).
Kayla Leahey (jr. Keansburg, NJ/Warwick Valley) took second place (8’ 4.25”, 2.55 meters) in the pole vault and Sarah Dores (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Holy Cross) was second (136’, 41.46 meters) in the javelin. Beckford finished third in the 100 meters (12.72) and the triple jump (36’ 0.25”, 10.98 meters). Magan Kustera (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) was third in the high jump with 5’ 2.25” (1.58 meters). In the hammer, Jess Lomonanco (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) and Emily Spieker (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) were third (142’ 5”, 43.42 meters) and fourth (131’ 1.5”, 39.97 meters) respectively. Lomonaco also had a fourth place (118’ 7.5”, 36.15 meters) in the discus.
