CHESTERTOWN, MD– The Rowan University softball team swept a doubleheader, 7-0 and 7-1 in six innings at Washington College on Thursday.  The Profs are ranked 11th in the nation and have a 26-4 record.

Right-hander LeAnne Miller (sr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) earned her 15th victory and fifth shutout in the first game.  She (15-2) only gave up five hits and had 10 strikeouts.  Kristin Cooper was the losing pitcher.  She (11-6) allowed six hits and seven runs, two earned.

Left fielder Jennifer Arcella (jr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) led the Profs with two hits (four at bats), one double, a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.  First baseman Stephanie Labas (sr. Millville, NJ/Millville) contributed with one hit (four at bats), one RBI and one run scored.  Shortstop Shilah Snead (fr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) added one hit and scored two runs.  Pinch hitter Krysti Maronski (jr. Woodbury Heights, NJ/GCIT) chipped in with one hit and two RBIs.

For the Shorewomen (19-10), catcher Kylie Nottingham was two for two at the plate with a double.  Right fielder Hilary Rosenberg produced two hits in three at bats and first baseman Lauren Dockrill had a double.

Arcella recorded a solo home run in the fourth inning for the first run.  Rowan was ahead 6-0 after five runs in the sixth inning.  Arcella knocked in two runs with a double to left center field.  She scored on a single by Labas and Maronski had a two-RBI base hit.  Snead crossed the plate on an error in the seventh for the final run.

The second game was called after six innings on account of darkness.  Maronski was the winning pitcher.  She (9-1) scattered five hits and gave up one earned run.  Christine Anderson took the loss on the mound.  She (6-4) allowed seven runs and two were earned.  At the plate, Anderson had one hit in three at bats and scored one run.

Profs’ catcher Meagan Lee (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) went three for four with two RBIs and one run scored.  Center fielder Shannon Costello (so. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), Labas and Snead each had one hit and scored one run.  Third baseman Jess Phillips (so. Woolwich, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) had one hit in one at bat and two runs scored.  

The score was tied at one after the second inning.  Rowan had a 4-1 lead after one run in the third, fourth and fifth innings.  Lee drove in Phillips with a single in the third inning and Costello went home on an error in the fourth.  Labas scored in the fifth inning on a single by Lee.  The Profs added three more runs in the sixth.  Phillips and Snead crossed the plate on an error.  Pinch runner Christina Lee (fr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) also scored on an error.
