CHESTER, PA – The Rowan University women’s track and field team competed at the Danny Curran Invitational on Friday. The two-day meet was held at Widener University.
Jamie Thompson (jr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.35. Thompson also had a second place in the long jump with 17’ 4.75” (5.30 meters). Shaliah Williams (fr. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) took second (25.91) in the 200 meters and fifth (12.58) in the 100 meters. Vanessa Wright (sr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) ran 4:36.83 in the 1500 meters for second place. Jess Lomonaco (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) was second in the hammer with a throw of 133’ 2” (40.58 meters). The 4x100 meter relay of Shantel Beckford (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), Thompson, Williams and Brianna Crofton (so. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) came in second in 48.77.
Crofton finished second (57.86) in the 400 meters followed by Melirah Searcy (so. Edison, NJ/Edison), third (58.04). Searcy also had a seventh place (2:21.37) in the 800 meters. Sarah Dores (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Holy Cross) finished third in the javelin with 119’ 3” (36.34 meters). Steph Greco (sr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) came in fourth (122’ 10”, 37.43 meters) in the hammer. Joyce Perry (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) took fifth (15.93) in the 100 meter hurdles. Francesca Contino (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) had a fourth place (1:13.16) in the 400 meter hurdles and was seventh (16.95) in the 100 meter hurdles.
Beckford came in sixth (12.65) in the 100 meters and was 18th (27.16) in the 200 meters. Jewel Brown (fr. Clayton, NJ/Clayton) had a sixth place (59.24) in the 400 meters. Meghan Borz (jr. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) took sixth (4:56.09) in the 1500 meters and Christin Bettis (fr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) was eighth (4:58.18). In the high jump, Magan Kustera (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford), Kelsey Lewis (fr. Belford, NJ/Middletown N.) and Williams all tied for sixth place with 4’ 9.75” (1.47 meters).
Perry was 10th (26.48) in the 200 meters while Tashay Wilson (so. Hillside, NJ/Hillside) was 10th (1:00.92) in the 400 meters. Samantha Stapleton (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) finished 11th (5:01.13) in the 1500 meters and 18th (2:27.76) in the 800 meters. Jessalynn Wright (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Crofton were 14th (2:26.65) and 15th (2:26.82) respectively in the 800 meters. Christina Ricci (fr. Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) came in 16th (5:10.96) in the 1500 meters and Alexus Streater (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) followed 17th (5:13.18).
Next week, Rowan travels to Princeton University for the Sam Howell Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 5 and 6.
