WEST CHESTER, PA – The Rowan University women’s track and field team traveled to West Chester University on Saturday for the Golden Ram Collegiate Invitational.
The 4x400 meter relay had a winning time of 3:55.96 with Brianna Crofton (so. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.), Melirah Searcy (so. Edison, NJ/Edison), Joyce Perry (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) and Shailah Williams (fr. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton Twp.). Vanessa Wright (sr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) ran 2:21.02 in the 800 meters for second place. Jewel Brown (fr. Clayton, NJ/Clayton) came in second (34’ 6.25”, 10.52 meters) in the triple jump. The 4x100 meter relay took third place in 49.71. The 4x100 consisted of Shantel Beckford (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), Crofton, Williams and Jamie Thompson (jr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick).
Thompson came in third in the 100 (15.13) and 400 (1:06.06) meter hurdles. Williams finished third in the 400 meters (58.60), Searcy was fourth (59.08) followed by Crofton, sixth (59.74). Williams tied for fifth (4’ 11.75”, 1.52 meters) in the high jump. Emily Spieker (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) took third in the hammer (138’ 3”, 42.14 meters) and eighth (104’ 5”, 31.83 meters) in the discus.
Melissa Lake (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) finished fourth in the javelin with 120’ 9” (36.81 meters) and Sarah Dores (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Holy Cross) was fifth (119’ 11”, 36.55 meters). Searcy took fourth (1:06.30) in the 400 meter hurdles. Jessica Carlson (jr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) had a fifth place (15.78) in the 100 meter hurdles. She was sixth (33’ 2”, 10.11 meters) in the triple jump and ninth (1:09.72) in the 400 meter hurdles. Beckford took fifth (33’ 8.75”, 10.28 meters) in the triple jump.
Perry came in seventh (16.17) in the 100 meter hurdles and eighth (1:09.72) in the 400 meter hurdles. Beckford had an eighth place (13.00) in the 100 meters. Jess Lomonaco (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) took sixth (107’ 9”, 32.85 meters) in the discus and 10th (123’ 2”, 37.54 meters) in the hammer.
Magan Kustera (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Depford) tied for 11th (4’ 7.75”, 1.42 meters) in the high jump. Carly Lebel (fr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) was 11th (30’ 3.5”, 9.23 meters) in the triple jump. In the 400 meters, Brown and Tashay Wilson (so. Hillside, NJ/Hillside) were 12th (1:00.80) and 13th (1:00.91) respectively.
Meghan Borz (jr. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) finished 14th (5:03.65) in the 1500 meters while Samantha Stapleton (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Alexus Streater (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) were 22nd (5:11.56) and 24th (5:17.05) respectively. Steph Greco (sr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) finished 17th (103’ 11”, 31.68 meters) in the hammer and 22nd (29’ 4”, 8.94 meters) in the shot put.
Wilson had a 17th place (14’ 7.75”, 4.46 meters) in the long jump. Vanessa Valdes (fr. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) finished 14th (2:29.76) in the 800 meter followed by Borz, 15th (2:29.96) and Stapleton, 16th (2:30.16). Jessalynn Wright (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Streater were 17th (2:30.25) and 21st (2:31.89) respectively in the 800 meters.
Next week, Rowan competes at the Danny Curran Invitational on Thursday and Friday, March 28 and 29. The invitational will be held at Widener University.
