Baseball Wins 16-2 Over Western Connecticut State

WINTER HAVEN, FL –  The Rowan University baseball team won 16-2 in seven innings over Western Connecticut State University on Friday at Chain of Lakes Field.  It was the Profs’ last game of their spring break trip.   

Rowan returns with a 10-4 record while Western Connecticut is just starting its schedule with a  2-2 mark.  Right-hander Jeff White (sr. Medford, NJ/Sterling) earned the win in relief.  In four innings, he (2-0) only allowed two hits and one unearned run.  White struck out seven batters.  Righty Joe Fedak took the loss.  He (0-1) gave up seven runs, four were earned.

Second baseman Mark Benak (jr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) led the Profs with four hits in four at bats, five RBIs and two runs scored.  First baseman Casey Grimes (so. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) recorded a three-run homer.  Left fielder Rich Powelson (so. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) contributed with three hits (four at bats), a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. 

Catcher Connor Grant (jr. Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Reg.) and third baseman Johnny Dunn (so. Pitman, NJ/Pitman) each chipped in with two hits, one RBI and one run scored.  Right fielder Nick Kreiger (so. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) registered two hits in two trips to the plate, a double, one RBI and two runs scored.  Shortstops Ryan Williams (so. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) and Evan Hughes (fr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) had one hit and one run scored apiece. 

For the Colonials, designated hitter Chris Alberto went two for two and scored one run.  Third baseman Bill Eannotti and first baseman Christopher Smith each had one hit (three at bats) and one RBI.  Shortstop Bobby Coyne produced one hit and scored one run.   

At home, Rowan has a rescheduled game against Alvernia University on Tuesday, March 26 at 3:30 p.m.
