Softball Defeats McDaniel, 2-0 and Anderson, 8-6

KISSIMMEE, FL – The Rowan University softball team defeated McDaniel College, 2-0 and Anderson University (IN), 8-6 on Wednesday.  The Profs (11-3) have a seven-game win streak at the Rebel Spring Games.

Right-hander LeAnne Miller (sr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) pitched a complete game versus McDaniel.  She only allowed two hits in her seventh win (7-2) on the season.  Righty Caroline Brehm took the loss.  She (6-3) gave up four hits and two earned runs. 

Left fielder Jennifer Arcella (jr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) was one for two at the plate with a double, one RBI and one run scored.  Designated player Ashley DeYoung (fr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) chipped in with one hit (three at bats) and one RBI.  Center fielder Shannon Costello (so. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) added one hit in three at bats and shortstop Shilah Snead (fr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) scored one run. 

For the Green Terror (7-6), center fielder Rachel Sidney and first baseman Stephanie Maring each had one hit in three at bats. 

The Profs scored one run in the first and third innings.  Snead led off with a walk in the first inning.  Arcella drove in Snead with a double to right center.  In the third, Arcella was hit by a pitch.  She moved to second on first baseman Stephanie Labas’ (sr. Millville, NJ/Millville) base hit.  DeYoung had a single down the left field line that scored Arcella.

Against Anderson (4-4), right-hander Krysti Maronski (jr. Woodbury Heights, NJ/GCIT) went 6.1 innings for the win.  She (3-1) gave up five runs, two were earned and had five strikeouts.  Lauren Smith was the losing pitcher.  In four innings, she surrendered seven hits and three earned runs.

Snead totaled three hits (three at bats), two RBIs and two runs scored.  Catcher Meagan Lee (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was three for four with one RBI and one run scored.  Second baseman Alysa Romero (so. Newfield, NJ/Vineland) collected two hits (four at bats), two RBIs and two runs scored.  DeYoung recorded a home run and two RBIs. 

Raven left fielder Lys Hess was two for four with a home run and three RBIs.  First baseman Yardley Collett contributed with two hits (three at bats) and one RBI.  Right fielder Katie McCool added one hit, one RBI and one run scored.  Center fielder Megan Ream scored two runs.  Designated player Samantha Steele went two for three with one run scored. 

Anderson scored one run in the first inning and Rowan went ahead with two in the bottom half.  Catcher Tori Price had a RBI single for the Ravens.  DeYoung recorded a two run homer, which was her second on the year.  Romero crossed the plate on Snead’s single in the second inning for a 3-1 advantage. 

The Profs added five runs in the fifth inning.  Snead and Arcella both came home on an error.  Romero drove in two runs with a base hit to left center.  Snead walked with the bases loaded and Romero scored.  The Ravens produced five runs in the seventh inning.  Steele crossed the plate for the first run on an error.  Collette registered a RBI single up the middle.  Hess recorded a three-run homer to left field.

Rowan ends its spring break trip with two games on Friday, March 22.  The Profs will play Springfield College at 9 a.m. and Utica College at 11 a.m.
