NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University women’s indoor track team took third place at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday. The two-day championships included 50 teams and were held at the Armory.
The Profs won the 4x800 meter relay with a school record time of 9:19.57. The old mark was 9:26.87 from 2012. The 4x800 consisted of Vanessa Valdes (fr. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack), Brianna Streater (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Lisa Jones (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) and Vanessa Wright (sr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.). The 4x400 meter relay was second (3:55.66) with Tashay Wilson (so. Hillside, NJ/Hillside), Jewel Brown (fr. Clayton, NJ/Clayton), Joyce Perry (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) and Melirah Searcy (so. Edison, NJ/Edison).
Wright came in second (4:56.60) in the one mile. Her time broke the school record, 4:56.79 that was held by Jenn Rawls (2010). Jamie Thompson (jr. Monmouh Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) had a fifth place (9.14) in the 60 meter hurdles. In the prelims on Friday, she had a time of 8.92 and was second going into the final.
In the 200 meters, Thompson and Shailah Williams (fr. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) were 10th (26.04) and 14th (26.20) respectively. Searcy finished 10th (58.61) in the 400 meters followed by Brown, 12th (58.72) and Wilson, 15th (1:00.01).
