WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Rowan University women’s track and field team finished competing at the Wake Forest Open on Saturday.  The open included schools from Division I, II and III and was held at Wake Forest University.

Melissa Lake (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) captured fourth in the javelin with a toss of 141’ 6” (43.13 meters).  Jamie Thompson (jr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) had a time of 1:04.62 in the 400 meter hurdles for sixth place.  Melirah Searcy (so. Edison, NJ/Edison) took 12th (1:04.95), Joyce Perry (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) was 15th (1:05.70) and Jessica Carlson (jr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) came in 23rd (1:07.87). 

The 4x400 meter relay captured sixth place (3:53.75) with Brianna Crofton (so. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.), Jessalynn Wright (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), Perry and Searcy.  Their time broke the school record of 3:53.89 from 1992.  Thompson tied for 20th in the long jump with 16’ 7.75” (5.07 meters).  Shailah Williams (fr. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) was 25th (25.60) in the 200 meters and Crofton followed in 33rd place (25.85). 

Wright came in 29th (2:22.05) in the 800 meters.  In the 3000 meters, Priscila Antuna (jr. Waretown, NJ/Southern Reg.) finished 32nd (11:21.93) while Onyi Obelle (fr. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) took 34th (11:25.35) and Brenda Mendez (so. Glassboro, NJ/Delsea Reg.) was 38th (11:48.29) respectively.  Emily Spieker (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Jess Lomonaco (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) were 30th (110’ 7”, 33.71 meters) and 32nd (108’ 4”, 33.03 meters) respectively in the discus. 

Next week, Rowan travels to West Chester University on Saturday, March 23 for the Golden Ram Collegiate Invitational at 10 a.m.
