Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team defeated New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponent Kean University, 75-59 on Saturday.
The Profs are 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference. The Cougars have a 4-2 record and a 2-2 NJAC mark.
Rowan had four players in double figures. Guard Rich McNamara (sr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) led the way with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Phil Jackson (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) contributed with 14 points and forward Jason Sofman (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) followed with 13. Guard Tim McDaniels (sr. Mount Holly, NJ/Lenape) produced 12 points and guard Kris O'Connor (so. Mount Laurel, NJ/Paul VI) added eight. Guard Jason Rosenberg (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) registered seven points and 11 assists.
For Kean, guard Ali Mix (sr. East Orange, NJ/East Orange Campus) scored a game-high 24 points. Forward Kyle Latorre (sr. Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/Hasbrouck Heights) tallied 10 points.
Guard Tom Soulias (so. Milltown, NJ/Spotswood) collected eight points and six rebounds.
The Profs were down by five-points to start the second period. Rowan went ahead 42-35 after a 14-2 run that ended at 14:16. Rosenberg and Jackson each hit a three-pointer, McDaniels and Sofman had one basket apiece while McNamara sank four free throws. O'Connor's three at 10:15 made the score 53-43. The Cougars trailed by seven (55-48) after Mix nailed a three-pointer at 9:16.
McNamara had a three for a 10 point advantage (58-48) with 8:59 remaining. Jackson's three-pointer at 6:45 put the Profs up by 11 (63-52). Mix followed with two threes to cut the deficit to six (63-57) with 4:55 on the clock. McDaniels hit a three-pointer at 3:05, which made the score 68-57. Mix had two free throws at 2:17 and Kean was down by nine points (68-59). Rowan ended the game with seven straight points. Sofman scored five points and Jackson had two at the free throw line.
Kean was ahead 33-28 after the first half. Rosenberg had a layup with 2:35 left and the Profs trailed 27-25. The Cougars closed the period with a 6-3 run for a five-point lead at the break. Mix and Soulias each had a basket while guard J.J. Hladik (jr. Bayonne, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) made two foul shots.
Rowan's next game is at William Paterson University on Wednesday, December 11 at 6 p.m.
