Women's Basketball Defeats Rutgers-Camden, 78-73 In Overtime

CAMDEN, NJ – Rowan University guard Bria Hill scored a game-high 21 points, including a three-pointer to tie the game near the end of regulation in a 78-73 overtime victory at Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday night.
 
The Profs are now 1-4 overall and they have a 1-1 record in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Scarlet Raptors are 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC.
 
Hill (jr. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) hit the triple with 35-seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 65. Rutgers-Camden missed a pair of layups and two free throws in the final seconds, sending the game to overtime.
 
In the extra session, Rowan scored the first five points to take a 70-65 lead with 3:28 to play. The Scarlet Raptors used an 8-2 run go ahead by one-point advantage at 2:06 (73-72). Center Kate Matthews (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) hit a foul shot with 1:02 on the clock to tie the game and guard Jade Bonder (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) poured in the final five points to give Rowan the victory.

Matthews and Bonder each scored 15 points. Matthews also tallied 11 rebounds and four assists. Guard Anyssa Sanchez (fr. Stratford, NJ/Sterling) added 11 points off the bench.
 
Guard Krystle Cook (so. Philadelphia, PA/Girard College) scored 20 points for Rutgers-Camden. Center/forward Tanjae Lewis (jr. Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) recorded 18 points and corralled 12 rebounds. Forward Michelle Onu (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) added 13 points and 13 rebounds, while guard Monica Burch (jr. Lawnside, NJ/Sterling) scored 10 points.
 
The score was tied at six early on, but Rowan used a 10-2 run for a 16-8 advantage with 13:50 to play in the first half. A layup by forward Megan Russ (sr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Twp.) extended the lead to 10 points (23-13) at the 11:19 mark. The Profs led 30-22 with 4:56 on the clock, but Rutgers-Camden went on an 11-3 spurt to end the half and the score was tied at 33 going into the break. Guard Alex Gravinese (jr. Audubon, NJ/Audobon) scored five points, while Lewis, Burch and Onu each had two points during the run. 

The second half was close throughout with neither team being able to pull away. The score was tied seven times, including at 59 at 4:27. Rutgers-Camden then scored four straight points for a 63-59. The Scarlet Raptors led 65-61 at the 2:02 mark, but Sanchez's foul shot and Hill's three tied the game at 65 with 35-seconds left.

Rowan will return to action on Wednesday, December 4 when it hosts New Jersey City University at 6 p.m.
