Volleyball Defeats Hunter, 3-0 For Fifth Straight Win

Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan University defeated Hunter College, 3-0 on Saturday for its fifth consecutive victory. The Profs won by the set scores of 25-21, 27-25 and 26-24.
 
Rowan has an overall record of 12-6. Middle hitter Morgan Mende (so. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) recorded 15 kills for the Profs. Outside hitter Danielle Havlicek (so. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) had eight kills and 17 digs. Setter Rebecca Dantonio (fr. Glen Mills, NJ/Garnet Valley) tallied 37 assists along with five digs. Libero Casey Grasso (sr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) led on defense with 22 digs and she also had three service aces.
 
Hunter's record is 7-8 overall. For the Hawks, outside hitter Stephanie Tabie (jr. Middle Village, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) recorded 13 kills. Setter Kristine Ciurcina (fr. Staten Island, NY/Suesan E. Wagner) tallied 22 assists, while libero Alisa Jaganjac (sr. Mostar, Bosnia/W.C. Bryant) had 16 digs.
 
The first set was back and forth with neither team taking more than a four-point lead. The score was tied at 17, but the Profs ended the set on an 8-4 run to win. In the second set, Rowan was able to build a 12-7 lead and then led 18-11. Hunter used an 11-5 spurt to tie the set at 22. The score was t tied at 24 and 25, but the Profs scored the final two points to take the second set. Rowan jumped out to a lead in the third set and held a 16-10 advantage. The Profs then led 23-16, but the Hawks scored seven straight points to tie the set at 23. The set was tied at 24, but again Rowan tallied the final two points to win the third set and the match.

Rowan returns to action on Thursday, October 10 at home against Rutgers-Camden at 7 p.m.
