GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's swim team defeated Salisbury University, 137-112 on Tuesday night.
Rowan won the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays with times of 1:38.73 and 3:21.43 respectively. The medley relay consisted of Larry Dow (sr. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams), Tyler Coe (so. North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Twp.), Pat Malone (sr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and Jesse Novak (fr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan). Dow, Troy Cervini (jr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland), Mike Demarest (sr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) and Nick Stranix (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) made up the free relay.
Novak came in first in the 50 (21.96) and 100 (48.29) freestyles. He also won the 100 butterfly (54.77). Brad Updegraff (fr. Frederick, MD/Walkersville) swam 2:01.97 in the 200 butterfly for first place. Steven Buzby (fr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) was the winner in the 200 freestyle (1:50.53) and he was second in the 100 free (50.23).
Kyle DeVore (fr. Annapols, MD/South River) came in first in the 1000 freestyle (10:28.70) while Zac Wister (jr. Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) took first place in the 500 free (5:06.14). In the 100 breastsroke, Mike Simunek (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) was first (1:00.55) followed by Paul Long (fr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee), second (1:02.08) and Patrick Myers (so. Kennett Square, PA/Kennett), third (1:02.94). Myers won the 200 breaststroke (2:21.03).
Dow finished second in the 100 backstroke (55.27) and Malone was second in the 200 butterfly (2:02.62). Cervini took second in the 50 free (22.41). Eric Emerson (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) came in third in the 100 backstroke (57.46).
For Salisbury, Okan Eyigor (fr. Washington, DC/Cent) won the 100 (53.49) and 200 (1:57.34) backstrokes. Travis Maida (fr. Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge) took first in the 200 individual medley (2:14.38). Sean Difatta (so. Baldwin, MD/John Carroll) had second places in the 1000 freestyle (11:19.42) and 200 backstroke (2:15.16).
