Men's Soccer Defeats New Jersey City University, 6-2

Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ - Rowan University broke its five game losing streak tonight with a 6-2 win over New Jersey City University.
 
The victory makes the Profs 7-7 overall and 1-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Gothic Knights have an overall mark of 5-6-1 and they are 2-3 in the conference.
 
Forward Luigi Buffolino (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) scored two goals and had one assist for the Profs. Back Nick Bolton (jr. Dover, DE/Dover) tallied a goal and three assists. Midfielder Shane Kohler (jr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) along with forwards Alex Molloy (so. London, England/Dulwich College) and Devon Garner (jr. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) each recorded a goal. Ryan Gill (sr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) and Kevin Vasta (jr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) split the goaltending duties. Gill made two saves, while Vasta stopped three shots.
 
Forwards Andy Caban (jr. Red Bank, NJ/Red Bank Reg.) and Brian Pino (jr. Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) each hit the back of the net for New Jersey City. Goalie Ruben Morales (jr. Princeton, NJ/Princeton) recorded six saves.
 
Molloy put Rowan on the scoreboard first, deflecting in a free kick by midfielder Brian Kahn (sr. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) at 15:21. New Jersey City tied the game at 22:33 as Caban deflected a shot pass the keeper off a pass from midfielder back Davauni Brown (fr. Newark, NJ/Newark Tech). Nick Bolton scored at 27:38, finding the back the net after a scrum in front. Buffolino made the score 3-1 at 35:24. His shot went past the goalie after assists from midfielder Parker Oris (Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.) and Bolton. Rowan's fourth goal came off the foot of Garner. Back David Schwartz (so. Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) threw the ball into Bolton, who passed to Garner with 2:14 on the clock in the first half.
 
With 38:28 to play in the second half, Pino took a cross from midfielder Marco Avella (jr. Union, NJ/Union) and scored to cut the Rowan lead to 4-2. Avella then sent a penalty kick attempt high over the net at the 67:15 mark. Avella had a second penalty kick with 15:01 on the clock, but Vasta stopped the shot. Kohler made the score 5-2 with 8:09 to play off assists by Buffolino and forward Vinny Ignatowicz (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.). Buffolino then completed the scoring at the 85:07 mark with an assist from Bolton.
 
Rowan will return to action on Wednesday, October 16 for a 3 p.m. game at Ramapo College.
