Box Score UNION, NJ – Rowan University defeated Kean University, 3-1 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action on Tuesday. The Profs won by the set scores of 29-27, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-17.
Rowan has an 11-6 record with a 3-1 conference mark. Kean is 13-6 overall and 3-1 in the NJAC. Setter Rebecca Dantonio (fr. Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) recorded 41 assists and had five digs in the victory. Outside hitter Danielle Havlicek (so. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) recorded 14 kills and 13 digs, while middle hitter Morgan Mende (so. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) added 11 kills, two digs and two blocks. Libero Casey Grasso (sr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) and defensive specialist Lauren Ruffalo (sr. Martlton, NJ/Cherokee) had 23 and 12 digs respectively.
In the first set, Kean went out to an early lead, 14-8. Rowan then used a 9-0 run to take a 17-14 advantage. The set was then tied at 20, 23, 25 and 27. The Profs trailed 27-26, but scored the final three points to win the first set.
The Cougars got off to a quick start in the second set, leading 4-1. They continued to hold the advantage and led 17-11. A 10-2 run by the Profs gave them a 21-10 lead. Rowan remained in front and took the second set.
The third set was close early on with neither team able to have than a one point lead. The score was tied at 13, but Kean then used a 6-2 run for a 19-15 advantage. The Cougars maintained their lead and won the third set.
The fourth set was a close affair early on and the score was tied at nine. Rowan then went on an 8-1 run to take a 17-10 lead. The Cougars could only get as close as three the rest of the set and the Profs won the set and the match.
Rowan will next host Hunter College on Saturday, October 5 at 3 p.m.
