Women's Basketball Falls In Overtime At Immaculata, 68-59

IMMACULATA, PA – The Rowan University women’s basketball team lost in overtime to Immaculata University, 68-59 in a nonconference game on Monday night. 

The Might Macs improve to 5-8 overall while the Profs have a 4-10 record.  Forward Allison Murphy (fr. West Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and guard Sarah Smith (so. Glenolden, PA/Archbishop Prendergast) each scored 14 points.  Murphy totaled nine rebounds while Smith had seven.  Guard Mackie Fitzgerald (so. Secane, PA/Archbishop Prendergast) registered 11 points, seven steals and six boards.  Forward Jackie Deegler (sr. Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) chipped in with seven points and nine rebounds. 

Rowan guard Eyandra Molina (sr. Pleasantville, NJ/Washington Irving (NY)) produced 17 points, six rebounds and six assists.  Center Stephanie Krauss (sr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) recorded career-highs with 14 points and 14 boards.  Forward Megan Russ (jr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Twp.) contributed with eight points while guards Jade Bonder (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Bria Hill (so. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) each added seven. 

With 3:01 left in the second half, Russ made a layup and a foul shot, which tied the score at 50.  Bonder put the Profs up by one (51-50) with a free throw at the 22 second mark.  Molina made the first of two foul shots for a two-point advantage (52-50) with seven seconds on the clock.  Fitzgerald attempted a three-pointer and Smith was fouled going for the rebound as time expired.  Smith sent the game into overtime with two free throws.

Immaculata started the overtime period with nine straight points in 3:17.  Murphy and Smith each scored four points and guard Adriana Sciascia (so. Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) had one.  The Profs trailed by six points (63-57) after Russ’ jumper at 1:01  Smith sank two foul shots to lead by eight (65-57) with 32 seconds left.  Hill made a layup (:25) and Deegler followed with a free throw (:17) and a basket (:03) to end the game.

In the first half, Rowan had a seven point advantage (9-2) at 16:25.  Krauss had two baskets, Bonder hit a three and Russ made a layup.  The Might Macs trailed by one (9-8) after Smith’s jumper (13:36).  Guard Marisa Kinsey (jr. Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) had two free throws (11:38) and Immaculata had a one point lead (12-11).  Krauss made the score, 13-12 (11:17) after two foul shots.  The Mighty Macs followed with a 6-0 spurt to go up by five (18-13) at 8:48.  Murphy contributed with two baskets and Kinsey added one. With 5:34 remaining, Murphy’s layup increased the advantage to seven (22-15).  Fitzgerald nailed a three and the score was 27-19 at the two minute mark.  Immaculata was ahead 29-23 at the break. 

Next, Rowan plays at home on Wednesday, January 9 against conference opponent Richard Stockton College at 6 p.m.
