GLASSBORO, NJ – The Ramapo College women’s basketball team had a 55-39 win over Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.
The Roadrunners are 9-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference. The Profs have a 4-9 record with a 0-6 NJAC mark. Guard Kelly Haspel (so. Lincroft, NJ/Middletown S.) led Ramapo with 10 points while forwards Alex Milne (so. Howell, NJ/Howell) and Micaela Moore (jr. Lindenwold, NJ/Lindenwold) contributed with nine and eight points respectively. Moore grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and blocked five shots. Guard Faith Flannery (sr. Keansburg, NJ/Keansburg) collected eight points and seven rebounds. Guards Jackie Jerkovich (so. Secaucus, NJ/Academy of the Holy Angels) and Kerrie Kosakowski (so. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) chipped in with seven points apiece.
For Rowan, guard Eyandra Molina (sr. Pleasantville, NJ/Washington Irving (NY)) totaled 17 points and nine rebounds. Guard Jade Bonder (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) scored nine points. Guard Bria Hill (so. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) and forward Brittany Barilla (fr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) each had six rebounds.
The Roadrunners ended the first half with a 10-point lead (24-14). They started the game with a 5-0 run in 3:28. Kosakowski scored three points and Moore had two. Molina sank two foul shots at 13:02, which tied the score at five. Ramapo was ahead 15-5 after a 10-0 run that ended at 9:01 with a layup by Flannery. Molina’s basket at 7:20 put the Profs within five (15-10). With 6:03 remaining, Haspel had a layup and the Roadrunners were up by nine points (19-10). Bonder hit a jumper at 4:30 and Rowan trailed 19-14. Ramapo closed the period with five straight points (24-14).
In the second stanza, Ramapo led by 11 points (32-21) at the 15 minute mark after a layup by Moore. Jerkovich hit a three at 12:57 and the score was 35-23. Molina made a layup and a foul shot at 11:48 and the Profs trailed 37-26. With 7:18 left, Molina’s basket pulled Rowan within 10 points (42-32). Bonder hit a jump shot at 2:56 and the score was 44-34. The Roadrunners had a 7-0 spurt for a 17-point lead (51-34) with 1:13 on the clock. Milne scored five of the seven points. Bonder followed with a three-pointer (:44) and a free throw (:42). Moore made the first of two foul shots (:36) and Haspel had two (:17) for the final score.
Next, Rowan travels to Immaculata University on Monday, January 7 for a 7 p.m. nonconference game.
