Kean Women's Basketball Wins 75-47 At Rowan

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Kean University women’s basketball team won 75-47 at Rowan University on Wednesday night. 

The Cougars are 5-14 overall while the Profs have a 5-16 record.  Forward Erika Jones (sr. Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy) led the way with 28 points, 10 rebounds and six steals.  Guard AnnaRose Pierre (so. East Orange, NJ/Newark Tech) contributed with 17 points and eight boards. 

Forward Kyanne Sager (sr. Westminster, VT/Kearsarge Reg.) chipped in with eight points and nine rebounds.  Guard Meghan Williams (so. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) and forward Sharell Lowe (fr. West Windsor Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro) each added six points.  Guard Shay Collins (so. Pine Hill, NJ/Atlantic City) dished eight assists and had six steals. 

For Rowan, guard Bria Hill (so. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) scored 16 points.  Center Stephanie Krauss (sr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) produced 11 points off the bench.  Guard Tia Scott (fr. Paulsboro, NJ/Paulsboro) registered nine points and guard Alexis Govan (jr. Bridgeton, NJ/Camden City Tech. Schools) followed with seven.  Govan also grabbed eight rebounds. 

The Profs started the game with an 8-2 run that ended at 14:49.  Scott and Govan each had four points.  Kean had three straight baskets that tied the game (8-8) with 10:37 remaining.  Jones made the first two while Pierre had the third.  Krauss (10:07) and Jones (8:51) exchanged layups, which knotted the score at 10.  The Cougars built a 10-point advantage (25-15) at 5:15 after a   15-5 spurt.  Jones scored nine points while Pierre and Williams added four and two points respectively.  Collins (3:30), Lowe (3:04) and Pierre (2:05) each had a basket to lead by 15 points (31-16).  Jones’ layup at the 16 second mark put Kean ahead 35-21 at the intermission.  She was the top scorer with 17 points. 

In the second stanza, Jones pushed the advantage to 26 points (47-21) with a layup at 16:36.  Collins’ basket at 14:36 put Kean up 53-23.  With 10:56 left, the Cougars went on a 7-0 run to lead by 36 (66-30).  Pierre had the last basket at 9:28.  Krauss’ layup made the score 70-38 (4:51).  Lowe scored with 4:07 remaining and the Cougars led 73-39.  Krauss sank two free throws (1:10) and Govan followed with a three-point play (:23), which ended the scoring. 

Rowan travels to Ramapo College on Saturday, February 2 for a 1 p.m. conference game.
