Borz Wins Women's 5000 Meters At Thomson Invitational

NEWARK, DE – The Rowan University women’s indoor track team competed at the Thomson Invitational on Saturday.  The meet was held at the University of Delaware.

Meghan Borz (jr. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) won the 5000 meters with a time of 18:28.59.  Tashay Wilson (so. Hillside, NJ/Hillside) came in fourth (1:22.42) in the 500 meters while Jewel Brown (fr. Clayton, NJ/Clayton) and Jessalynn Wright (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) were seventh (1:24.25) and ninth (1:26.26) respectively.  Melirah Searcy (so. Edison, NJ/Edison) had a fifth place (2:24.78) in the 800 meters.

The 4x800 meter relay ran 10:15.78 and was fifth.  The 4x800 consisted of Wright, Lisa Jones (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), Brianna Streater (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Brown.  The 4x400 meter relay with Wilson, Joyce Perry (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick), Shailah Williams (fr. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) and Jamie Thompson (jr. Monmoth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) finished eighth (4:13.58).

Brown had a fifth place in the triple jump with 35’ 2” (10.72 meters).  She was also 14th in the long jump (15’ 11”, 4.85 meters).  Shantel Beckford (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) tied for sixth (8.13) in the 60 meters.  Thompson had an eighth place (9.70) in the 60 meter hurdles.  Jones took ninth (5:28.79) in the one mile. 

Brianna Crofton (so. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) finished 10th (2:28.21) in the 800 meters while Streater was 11th (3:20.19) in the 1000 meters.  Emily Spieker (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) came in 10th in the weight throw with a toss of 40’ 1.50” (12.23 meters).  Perry finished 13th (9.89) in the 60 meter hurdles and was 14th (1:03.49) in the 400 meters.  Sam Kamper (jr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) tied for 13th in the high jump with a height of 4’ 11” (1.50 meters).

Next week, Rowan travels to Ursinus College on Saturday, February 2 for the Frank Colden Invitational at 9 a.m.
